Hello, I just peeked at your profile! I have psoriasis too and am in REMISSION from P.A for 3 years now. I have a theory..........when my cholesterol was discovered to be high I tried diet etc, no red or processed meat (only free range chicken and a little fish) no full cream diary etc. During the P.A flare I could barely walk and thats when Diabetes attacked me! However the P.A is gone and I am active again. Just started Diabex and have to take medication for cholesterol and B.P, still on that diet and no P.A so who knows....just my theory.
BE GOOD, Meg

Ok ok. guilty as **** I had some cream cakes. And the price, I am paying so there. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Wish my PA would go into remission, but have been stuck with it for many a year. And my spine is so damaged now, walking is becomming a distant memory. Must admit I do try. But as for my hands, well can't write much these days. Do I dream of remission. Sob sob and another sob!!!:bawling:

Cold water to bring WHAT down?

Believe it or not Spike, it helps get rid of the excess glucose little by little, and as it is 4.00am in the morning here in the uk, and way past my sleep time, I am paying the price of being stupid.

Hi DameMinnie
I am a newbie to this Forum and finding lots of useful info, have been type 2
for 11 years managing on diet alone.
My BS levels are now very hard to control (anywhere between 9.5 - 15.0mmol)
and GP has said I probably need to start on Metformin.

Does drinking lots of water really help to get BS levels down?
I would gladly do that even if it meant I was visiting the loo every 2 hours :)

Yes it helps, but I am on Avandamet to, which is Metformin plus another drug. I could not control my type 2 with diet alone, but the other night after being so stupid, I ended up with very high levels and in need of extra help in 2 hours I managed 2 pints of cold water, I was dehydrated, it did help bring it down along side the tablets, shall not do that again, one of my first blips backwards, not worth it. I paid the price and felt very rough for a few days, but try it. just sip the water, as if you are drinking tea or coffee, don't drown yourself in it. Let me know if it works for you. If your GP advises drug control of your diabetes, then listen to what they tell you, you can lead a fairly normal life, but you must stick with the diet too. Diabetes can be controlled, just be aware of it.

Drinking a lot of water does bring your BG down when your sugar levels are so high that you are excreting glucose in your urine (> 180/10). But if you don't drink the water, you will still urinate excessively and pass sugar, you will just be real thirsty and mess up your system's osmotic balance.
If drinking water has any other effect on BG, I'd like to hear it.

You should ask your doctor for a sliding scale or correction factor of some fast acting insulin. You don't want to stay that high for long, and insulin is your best bet at bringing it down. If you are go over 300 any time, you really need to have some plan of action besides just drinking water.

Well my BG is back up tonight and yes I am in a panic over it. Will test again shortly, but this time no extra help, meaning the water, I am relying on the avandamet alone tonight, I take them twice daily, and I am on the highest dose, may be some one here would like to help me.

I have had diabetes now for over 6 years, only diagnosed just over 2 years ago, and then it was only found because my BP went up to 152.5/110 iin a very short space of time, I won't go in to full details of my health problems but I have quite a few and they are for life. No diet or the likes of will end them or even send them into remission. I have lost 3 inches in height in 5 years, I had gallstones at 31 and my gallbladder rewmoved, and believe it or not I weighed 7 stone then and was 4' 91/4 inches, so quess how tall I am not, 4' 6 inches. 3 years ago I had the archilles tendon in my left leg reconstructed. It snapped for the second time, this time completely, and the ends went missing somewhere in my leg. 2 surgeons and a few hours operation and the use of a tendon from underneath my foot a new tendon sort of, not the same as the real thing but it works. Enough for me to potter around because that is all I can do. I was unale to walk for 4 months gee did my knees get saw

I also pump out protein in my urine as well as having high cholestraL I also have a slight heart problem called sinus tachycardia. Think I have enough to last me the rest of my life. PA and OA and slight scolliosis of my spine.

Low fat diet,no sugar and low salt are the order of the day for me. So I had a blip backwards, and yes we can all do that and yes probably will have to go onto insulin eventually, if I can't keep my glucose levels down with what ever means it may take. Don't be affended by my post please. I get fed up at times too. Being virtually housebound is not one of the best situations in life. I am only 57 years of age and not quite ready for the slippers and the basket chair, may be a straight jacket at times though

drinking water also helps flush out your kidneys so you dont have ketone buildup...
