I've been working on a website, in my spare sparce time, for quite some time now. I actually found this site when I was about to purchase vBullitien for it. Before buying it I wanted to make sure no one else was doing the same thing. Well, like most good ideas, someone was doing it. And much better then I could. I LOVE diabetes forums, and I don't think any of us could thank Tony enough. I'd also like to thank Tony for letting me put this link up, it is greatly appreciated. It might be a bit buggy, but think this first major release is pretty solid. Hope you like it.

Yup :)! <Thanks for registering FG>. can find it right here:
http://www.diabuddies.com/DiabetesManagementSystem/default.aspx
You will be the first person <besides me> to use it :).
Be patient when connecting your meter. After hitting the upload button (I forget what labled it) watch your meter and you'll see it go into memory mode. As soon as it does that it is starting to transfer.

Checked it out... one bug, but not a huge one. I like my browser window at a certain size and I have to scroll right-left to get everything on your page, or else resize my window. :( I prefer sites that will automatically resize themselves to my window size. But, I'm just lazy too! :D

Hmm, I appear to have crashed it by entering a blank bg record after entering 2 normal ones then asking it to show my chart. It would help if the manual entry could cope with regional time differences for the default time too. Better still if the date could be entered in a regional format. Apart from that it looks really good.

Done. Insuins are stored in a database table so its easy to change. Other changes require me to recompile, and re-release the site.
I am working on getting the one touch ultra connected for the next meter release.

I've been trying all day to sign up, this is what it keeps telling me, after i hit the register button.
Maya, I am sorry. I had to play the role of project manager, graphic design artist, business analyst, programmer, Database Admin, and Quality Assurance. Here at my 'real job' I have friends that do that work with me :). Can you please take a screen shot of the page before you hit the register button? I can not tell why it is giving you that message.

Actually it's kinda my fault too. You can only upload .jpg files, and you uploaded a .gif. I need to error catch file formats upon upload. I changed your pic to a jpg for ya.

and thank you, so far it looks like some really awesome stuff, I like the way I can make graphs and such with things. I'm not a very organized person, but maybe this will help me out some since it's easier for me to enter data on a computer then write things down other places :D

I'll put it in the next release (trying to get a bunch of fixes / enhancements in too). This is one of the lists (diabetic types) I made static since a change is so rare. I'll make it DB drivin like it should be and add T3 - MODY.
Thank you all for your feed back, and feel free to keep it coming. I really hope this site helps.

One other thing, Brian, could you give yourself a little cell padding between the diabetesforums.com graphic and your text?
I'm from a background of designing small business web pages, and tend to see little details that don't bother most people, but really make my eyes boggle! LOL If you like it your way, I understand...just a bit of a graphic/web designer's advice... :vroam:

What's on your fix and enhancement list Brion?
I would be great to see a good "on site" method of communication between members! Even if it means a small forum?
I also think you should add an option for No A1C's... i haven't had one yet and i had to put 4.0!
I just entered all my todays results for my diagrid :D yey i have a graph! lol

Wow Stu, those are very good numbers. I am hoping this helps me get there. My enhancement and fix list is done by hand (just finished it, 3 pages worth of stuff), and am hoping to have all them done and in by Sunday night.

Remember this is a test site. While I can assure you (99.9999% anyways) that your info is secure, there is going to be some hiccups. None of which should invade privacy. I take privacey settings as the highest priority.
I'll have a small guest book page, but there will be no forums hosted at diabuddies. If Tony lets me host a diabuddy forum like the documentary one, I would greatly appreciate it :), but as I said to Tony, Diabuddies will not compete with the diabetes forums. a)because I think this place is sacred, and b)it would kick my *** and leave me with bad karma.

Sunday is the next major release. For the next release I could use help if people are willing.
Explanation of diabetes would be good (a page for each type). I just need the basic HTML, i'll apply my style sheet to it.
Ideas are always welcome.

Uploading my Flash as I type. So far so good, though I notice two things that may be considered "bugs," but don't really bother me.
1. When I typed my password into the client, it remained there in type, not converted to astrices or anything.
2. When the website was launched by the cliet, it launched in IE rather than my default browser.

Brian,
Its a really good idea. And there is a lot of potential. Being able to upload BG readings will be be critical. Will you cater for the AccuCheck Advantage metre? A Member-to-member communication mechanism will also be critical. Perhaps a forum focused on BS level management.
Keep up the good work!

sweet!! 1) I'll make the text field of type password. Know your password is extremely encrypted when sending it over the net. It is an inconvinience if someone else opens the app and sees your pw - thats not good and will be fixed by next release.
2) Is IE set as your default browser?
Was it very difficult hooking it up? I am glad your meter had less than 50 records (the max it holds), didn't have a meter to test that with. <wipes sweat from forehead>
When IE lauches to your diagrid the data is done. The app needs more work, but it does its job of pushing a button and uploading the data. One bug, that will be fixed, that i hate is the program only works the first time you send data. If you try to send data again, without closing and reopening the app, it seems to hang.

Thank you so much! I can't tell you the amount of work I have done on this site. Its taken over 3 years to get here. I love my current job, so finding time to work on it is difficult. There is SO much more work to be done! I am giving up the weekend to get to a decent version 1.1b up by sunday night! Giving up my kayak day and poker night to work on it, but it's so worth it right now. Thanks again.

I have a cascading style sheet, and I need -
a)to replace links with a different color, color needs to be tbd, by you if you want.
b)Any styles you think would look nice
c)cleaned up and matched to the pages.
Also every place you see a button, I need a graphic for. 3 different button styles to choose from would be nice to see if it is worth the change.
If you would like to do this, that would be great. I'd have to throw together a quick contract and I will set you up on my development server to work with the site. PM me with an email i can send the contract to if you want to do this.
At work I use Project / Project Server / Sharepoint Portal Server / for project/task management, I wrote a helpdesk application for it too that also sends bugs to our dev teams bug tracking system(test track). In the end I always have a hand written task list / info sheet that often contains hieroglyphics the cave men used to map things out. A good pen and piece of white drawing paper will never fully be replaced :), thanks for the thought though.
This is awesome, Brian! You definitely did a good job, and it seems like despite minor issues, you got a great thing going there! Thumbs up to you!
Thanks! The minor issues are actually fixed now (at least the ones I have been catching), but won't be released until the Version 1.1b release. The v 1.0b release went much better than I expected lol. When we first started the company i work at now, the first two years every release had pretty big fires to put out. 3 years after that and we haven't had a single hot fix after a release since then. I am thankful the 1.0b release went so smoothly <knock on wood>.

Brian-
I really like your site. I think it is a great concept and I look forward to seeing it develop and mature.
I’ll wait on an upload client version that will support Accu-Chek Aviva (I’m hopeful that this meter will be supported sometime in the future) as I do not think I will have the time to enter readings manually.
I just have two suggestions. 1- A Diagrid flag with each member’s profile on the View Diabuddy Profiles screen would be very helpful. The flag would show the status of each member’s Diagrid (ie- Empty or Private, or if public, display- Updated on xx-xx-xx as a hyperlink to that member’s Diagrid.
2- In a member’s profile an A1c that ends in .0 is truncated and only shows the whole digit. (ie- an A1c of 6.0 is shown as 6) I think an A1c that is an even 6.0 looks more official when displayed as 6.0 instead of just 6 imho.

No, Firefox is.

No, it wasn't. Only problem I had was not knowing when it was done. It gave me no indication other than the new results stopped being added. Glad to know it's done when IE launches. That makes sense.
One other minor bug. When I uploaded my data and it made the chart it said, "BrionH's Diagrid" over the chart. I'm not you!

Mark,
Accu-check Aviva will be supported soon. The top 5 meters will have connectivity no later then the end of October (I hope! :) ).
1) totally agree, am also putting it on the search results page.
2) also agreed, but of low priority.
Both are added to the list.
fg,
It should, theoretically open the diagrid with your default browser, but it is written in .NET so it doesnt surprise me MS uses ie to launch it. I'll investigate the problem. lol, does it show your data on the diagrid or mine? Hopefully it's just a page label flaw.

Brion,
This is very cool! I actually thought (briefly) about doing something like this to help people in control. I think it will really catch on!
I'm working on my thesis, which deals with data mining to indicate conditions that cause bad/good control. I'm not quite as accomplished with graphics and the sort, and the public side of the data mining is not usable by "humans" yet (it generates rulesets and I haven't been able to work much on the web interface to the backend data mining).
I'm a LAMP kind of person (not .NET!), but once I'm done with it, I sure would like to volunteer with your stuff, since you've got a better idea!
My site only runs when my computer is on (I'm using dynamic DNS, so that can be a problem, too) -- www.liveabetes.com -- I never planned on mentioning it to the public, since it's such a major draft intended for data collection, but I thought you (and maybe anyone else curious enough) might get a kick out of seeing what I've done for my school work. The graphs only draw out with data. I did my first AJAX coding with the food entries for entering food data.
My site changes by the minute when I'm working on it, though -- not very well managed, and the FDA would have a heart attack.
I know what you mean about being all parts of the project. I originally started using a free version of Oracle and decided that Oracle DBA was too much, so I switched to MySQL. hee hee!
Again... awesome job!
Oh... and even more awesome writing the interface for uploading meter values.
P.S. You might like the way my system does the manual data entry -- check out the Preferences and see how the medications aren't hard coded. If you can get any modeling ideas from my prototype, I'd feel like I helped in some way. :adore:
P.P.S. I use three meters -- what would happen if I uploaded from two different Freestyle meters -- would it collect data from both?

Lili, sorry i missed that, you were one of the first up there lol. Your's will be working again tonight. The reason it is down is because you have entered two blank bgl levels in a row(but has carb or insulin), which obviously should work, but I need to correct the logic in how I handle that situation. Sorry about that.
There was also a question about hooking up different meters or many flash meters. Many flash meters works right now(Ive been using 2), and yes, you can merge data from any supported device.

Kevin - I am going to work on the Lifescan ul client this week, and push back the upgrades to the Diagrids. I am really looking forward to upgrading the Diagrids as I have a bunch of cool graphs, charts, stats, and reports to implement, but I think it's best to get people connected first.
Mark - I made a lot of graphics smaller in size and switched some functions to run on the server instead of the users(Diabuddy) web browser. The search functionality is bizzarre. It worked well on my dev server but is acting strange when I put it up on the production box. Will look at and thanks for the compliment! :)
