I don't get sick often (thank goodness!) and although I've been on oral meds for more than 2 years now, this question still remains :

When I am sick, should I take my meds anyway? :hmmmm:

I am always unsure what to do. Silly, isn't it?

This week began with this strange virus everyone seems to have these days... splitting headaches and nausea. :puke: for me.

Of course when vomitting I don't take my oral meds. But when I started to feel sick I only had slight nausea. I was unsure then about medication. I am aware BG will go up the curtains when I am sick and I certainly don't want to go higher by not taking my meds... that's why I'm asking.

What do you guys do?

Thank for the feedback! :)

Yep, you're supposed to always take your Diabetes Meds/insulin.

Most Diabetes classes include planning for Sick Day problems.

Finding OTC drugs to helps with the symptoms might be a bit tricky. I would check with your Dr. and see if there are some that they might recommend.

You know,of course, that being sick is going to really Mess with your B/G levels.

My doctor told me it could be dangerous to take oral meds when you're sick if you get dehydrated. So I guess the moral of the story is...don't get dehydrated. That alone can be dangerous for diabetics anyway.

Yep, that's part of Sick Day planning, what fluids you're going to drink and knowing how they effect your B/G levels when you're "Normal" so you'll have an idea as to what to do when you're sick to counter-act the effect the fluids have.

... but in the event of whatever you swallow comes up straight away? I couldn't keep a tablespoon of water down.

Am sooo glad it's over.
