Hi,
I'm new to the forum and I was diagnosed with Type 2 about 2 yrs back. Diabetes runs in our family, my mom, uncles, mom's dad quite a few of them, so wasn't worried initially when I was diagnosed but after seeing the complications what my mom's dad had and seeing what my mom is going through now, it has started to worry me.
I was happy that I was diagnosed earlier rather than later not sure if I could have avoided it since seems to be a genetic trait.
I started taking 500 mg of Metformin and Lipitor 10 mg everyday. After 6 months the test showed that my HbA1c was little over 7 and cholestorol was back to normal. Seeing the results I went easy and my next test after 6 months showed elevated HbA1c and high cholestrol.
My dr. increased my meds,
Currently I'm taking
500 mg of Meformin (Mon and Night)
Avandryl 4/1
Lipitor 20 mg.
I'm worried about long term side effects of these drugs, I'm 34 now, I'll have to take these meds until it is end of life or at some point may have to move to insulin. I'm serious now on watching what I eat and regular exercise. My BG is under control even if I don't take Avandryl, this seems to cause low BG if I don't take my lunch in time since I take this medicine after Bkfast.
Few questions.
1. Is anyone taking Avandryl? This seems to be a new drug recently approved
by FDA.
2. I wanted to find out if anyone has been able to control BG by diet and exercise after being diagnosed as Type 2 or is it advisable to stay on meds.
I'm going to ask my doc on next visit if I can stop taking avandryl and monitor my progress without it.
I'll stop here. I'm happy I came across this forum.
Thanks
