Is there a risk not to take meds for let’s say a week? Just to check how my blodsugar is? I’m diabetes 2, and I have found out that my blodsugar is really good while I train. But lately there have been lots of changes, the meds I take is: Glucophage, Metformin 850 mg, I take it once a day. After breakfast. But lately I have lots of pimples. And also rush around my nose. And my nose is also swollen and does not look good at all. When I tell my doctor about this he tells me that it’s going to pass. But I have taken this meds nor for 31 days. And it’s still the same. So now I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to stop taking the meds, for let’s say a week, and then control my blood sugar during that week. To check it. And also to see if I lose my pimples. I feel so frustrated and angry, because it’s doing something to my self-confidence…. :frown:

Hi Mr. Ernest. What does your medicine have to do with pimples? I have never heard of that being a side effect of either of yours. It took my body several months to really adjust to metformin, and if I don't have food with it, I still have problems. I think it would be wise to talk to your doctor before you stop any medications. I would think the pimples might more likely be caused by a change in your diet. A few years ago, I had an outbreak (I am in my 50's), I finally figured it was from being allergic to banana peppers. I always broke out after eating them, and it cleared up after a few days staying away from them. I think you need to give the meds a little more time.

I'm a suspenders AND belt kind of guy (meaning I take NO risks without extra protection) and I'd be hesitant to go off them entirely---but, is there some way you can cut the meds by 1/2 or 1/3?

Perhaps, you're just going into 2nd puberty? lol

Never heard of metformin causing blemishes. You did not say what your levels have been running, but if you have only been taking metformin for 31 days you are not seeing the full effect yet. Others taking metformin have reported better control taking it at the begining of the meal and better yet during the meal. Another point to consider is that the season is changing which brings on allergy responses. Now that you have diabetes you will find that things affect you more. So things that may have only caused you minor irritation previously may now cause a full blown allergy reaction. This increased reaction should lesson once you have control and are seeing most of your readings around 5. While your levels are elevated you are more likely to get colds and/or the flu. They will be worse and take longer to get rid of.

You certainly could stop taking the metformin for a week, but you will just be putting off achieving good bg control. Your much more likely to get over the pimples with good bg control. Most people see the maximum affect form metformin by 6 weeks and some take 8 weeks. So I would wait at least 2 weeks if not 4 before trying to stop for a week. The swollen nose sounds like the onset of a cold. Have you been having a runnig nose as well?

Hi there,
No, I dont have a running nose at all. And the nose is big, and its not good. It feels terrible. And looks worse. I dont know if its the tablets. But this is something I want to find out. And the pimpels gives me problems to. Since they come all over the place. And one nearly got infected to.
