My fasting BS 112 mg/dL last test was 114.
Cholesterol (total) 174 last test was 156
A1C 5.8 last test was...5.5
Triglycerides 88 mg/dL last test was.. 83
HDL 63 mg/dL last test was ...49
LDL 93 last test was.. 90

I think this is not bad and I am happy. I was losing weight to much and 6 months ago started eating meat, egg, taking protein. That may be the contribution for the increased cholesterol, even though it is within range.

Congrats on the numbers. The Cholestrol isn't too far out there and can be brought within range with a few changes in diet and exercise. I think you are doing great so far and in time you will have perfect numbers. Again, congrats.

The eggs and meat will have caused your HDL to increase from 49 to 63. Which made your total/HDL ratio improve from 3.18 to 2.76, reducing your heart disease risk to a very low level. A TC/HDL ratio above 4.5 indicates high risk of heart disease. So keep up the good work!

I've always thought eggs and fat from meat/cheeses causes an increase in LDL, while fats from foods such as nuts, olive oil, avocados, etc. causes an increase in HDL.

Lord..... I need to do better. Ok no eggs, meat or cheese. More nuts, olive oil (bleck) and avacados yummy. My cholesterol is bad....HDL is excellent, but LDL...baaad. I just really hate all of the statin drugs. What to do.

Anyhow, now that I have rambled on....Congrats July2005 your numbers make me jealous!!! :banghead:

The foods you mention contain more mono-unsaturated fats and higher omega3:omega6 ratios. Which are thought to have a more positive effect on HDL. But the saturated fat in eggs (preferably free range) and meat (preferably grass fed) will do it too. :eating:

Thanks all for your positive responses. I am really happy with the HDL, no question about it. Before I stop smoking three years ago my HDL was 33 very low. Then it went up to 46, 49...and now 63. I do use only olive oil when we cook and start eating nuts, like almonds. What about the A1C 5.8 it shows that it is out of range, suppose to be below 5.7, but hey I was 7.4 when I first diagnosed thus even though it is up from my last time test it isn't bad I think, but I need more work to get it down.

Most endocrinologists consider a diabetic with an a1c of 7.0 or less to be under control.

Great numbers!! Whenever you get blood work I'd reccomend asking for a Chem 7. Did you have any creatinine, BUN numbers?

I don't know what is that Chem 7? I will ask next time I go for test.

Hi Notme
I hate the statins too they made me feel quite bad so I said I didn't want to take them any more.
I have instead been taking plant sterols tablets and/or Flora margarine (which includes plant sterols) and yes,
my cholesterol has reduced considerably. :D
