Joe Gibbs -- the Hall of Fame coach of the Washington Redskins -- is a T1 diabetic. In today's Washington Post I noticed the following report:

"Gibbs, Brunell Hold Chat
Coach Makes Detour To Hospital on Visit

Washington Redskins Coach Joe Gibbs suffered a diabetic reaction due to an insulin imbalance last night at the start of a dinner meeting in the Jacksonville, Fla., area with Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell. The three-time Pro Bowl player drove Gibbs to Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, about 40 miles from Jacksonville, where the coach was treated in the emergency room and released by 8:30 p.m., according to a hospital official.

Gibbs -- who flew to Florida to speak to Brunell about joining the Redskins -- returned to the dinner afterward.

"He had an imbalance in his insulin, they gave him the required dosage to correct the imbalance and he went on his way," Redskins spokesman Karl Swanson said last night. "They didn't keep him there. They gave him what he needed and he left."

When Gibbs, 63, announced his return to the Redskins on Jan. 7, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with diabetes since retiring in 1992. Gibbs -- the second-oldest coach in the NFL -- viewed it in a characteristically positive light, saying that it will force him to keep a promise to his wife about being conscious of his diet and sleep habits."

Huh? He's been a diabetic for 14 years and he ends up having a hypo when he's about to eat and then has to be driven 40 miles to get an "insulin imbalance" fixed.

What's all that about then?

I think he is Type II, not Type I. Just because of his age and how they said that he had an insulin imbalance and the hospital gave him a required dose. I'm sure if he was having a low he would be talking jibberish to Mark Brunnel. Probably something along the lines of "Mr. Bradshaw, we would love to see you in Washington"

Well I do know nothing about T2 so that would probably explain my confusion.

(Although, and not wanting to second guess a living legend, a second round pick for a 34yo QB with 2 concusions and 4 years from his last good season when you have a promising young QB and are very tight against the cap and need to resign your all-pro corner is evidence of a hypo to me)
