I found that every time I have my monthly cycle, my bg's go throuth the roof. Are ther any explanation for that? My husband says that it is something to do with my hormones.

Currently I almost feel that I have to stop eating, because even by eating all the right things my bg's is still very high.

Your husband is a very smart man. Hormones rule our lives and that includes diabetes.

Generally, when that time would hit for me, my blood sugar would go lower just before and then WHAM, it would go through the roof. For me, more insulin was the answer. You will have to control these highs with diet and exercise. Bummer.......

I think that is has something to do with your levels of testosterone, which somehow cause you to be more restistant to insulin, whether it's injected or natural. During your cycle, your testosterone levels are at its peak, and the estrogens are low. I think that's right, maybe I'm getting them mixed up, but it sounds good. Somebody please correct me if you know better!

Yes, I think that is right -just before your period, estrogen levels are very high, causing your sugars to drop (due to sensitivity to insulin), then when the estrogen drops, testosterone levels go up, which might explain why then we would have higher sugars. (?)

Thanx girls, now I know my hubbie isn't that stupid. I thought he just told me that so that I can feel better about it. Men are so lucky that they are not women. I shall definitely consult my GP about the way forward.

Thanks again

Sure, we are lucky we personally don't have to entertain the monthly visitor. But, we do have to live with our significant others that do. That time of the month it's like walking on glass, we tread carefully...
