Diabetic mother's risk of passing to fetus

I read on a different site that if one parent is diabetic, the chances of offspring being diabetic are 6%. If BOTH parents are diabetic, chances of offspring being diabetic are 10%.

I don't know if they meant "being born with diabetes" or just getting it sometime within their lifetime.

Anyone have any other knowledge?

I have diabetes and so far none of my grown children do. My son is 29 then I have a 27, 25, 23 and 21 year old. So far fine. My second granddaughter was born weighing 9lbs 2 oz and her blood sugar was low at birth. The doc's think that probably my daughter's blood sugar was high at the end of her pregnancy and passing sugar on to the baby. When the cord was cut, so was the baby's sugar supply and thus the low blood sugar.

I have checked my grandchildren for diabetes several times....so far so good. We are all watching closely and praying for the best.

I have heard that the father being DIabetic, the dominant gene, there are a bit more chances.

When I was pregnant with my first, my Endo told me my Kids
would have a 4% chance of getting Diabetes.
If the Father only had Diabetes, the Kids would have an 8% chance
of getting Diabetes.
If both Parents had Diabetes, then the Kids would have a 14% chance
of getting it. So the numbers are fairly close.

My Kids will be 25 and 21 soon.
My Youngest Brothers Kids are 27, 24 and 12. His GrandKids are 6 and 4.
None of them have the D. (kow) I'm sure glad they didn't get it when they
were little. I pray the same for the Grandkids.

I give Soooo much credit to the Parents of young ones with Diabetes. My
Daughter had Epileptic seizures for 9 yrs. That was scary enough.

My Dr. meant, them getting it at any time.

Both T1 and T2 diabetes have generic components. Surprisingly, the generic aspect of T2 is greater than for T1. But many, if not most, T2 (potential) parents have their children before they experience T2.

Thanks for that website Jason. r/t recent lab tests I've had done, my endo thinks I have type II polyglandular syndrome. According to this website, my child is at risk for having the same, including type I diabetes and the ratio is 1 to 2. Very scary considering I have just started taking insulin a couple of months ago.

Does anyone know if there are any in vitro tests they can run to check for fetal diabetes?
