This disease is going to drive me absolutely mad some day!! This morning's fasting was a lovely 95. I thought it was a wonderful a start to the day. got to work (I eat my breakfast at work) feeling a little shaky. Before I started breakfast I thought I'd test to see how low I had gone since I was feeling shaky. My BG was an astounding 167!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What would cause that????? I had nothing but coffee with a little splenda in it at home! I've NEVER jumped up like that after coffee.

My numbers look like that every morning if I do not eat right away. My dietician told me to eat within 30 minutes of waking or the numbers would rise as the liver kicked in to make up for the lack of food. Dawn Effect? or something like that, so now I have breakfast first thing in the a.m.

Thanks.....It's just so odd because it's never happened to me before. Like I said this disease is going to drive me mad....

Yup, same with me(what trpack said). Without even eating or
drinking anything. It automatically starts rising about a half hour
after I get up. My Brothers were the same. I thought everyone
was like that before it was mentioned otherwise. Quite interesting
actually. So I normally take my shot and have a yogurt a little while
after and it's fine. :)

Same here. I was tired this morning, not really motivated to eat, so I waited about an hour after I woke up to eat. Rise of 80 points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I had prior to eating was the coffee with spenda!

I'm having trouble with my blood sugar going up, too. Got up this morning and it was 104. At 9:00, it was 181 even though I ate only one slice of toast and 4 ounces of grape juice for the carbs AND I've increased my morning dose of Humalog from 8 units to 14 over the last two weeks. During this time, I've had readings of 259 and 257 after breakfast. Perhaps I'm having the same trouble as you.

I'm just on oral meds but perhaps we're both having some "dawn effect" this week. I think it's just my diabetes messing with me again..:banghead: Sometimes I think I'm just going mad.
The thing that gets me the most is that there's no consistency in anything with this disease. What works one day or one week won't the next. Eating the same foods at different times of day will affect me differently. It just flipping frustrates me all the way around.
Here I went low after breakfast again and had to eat to get rid of the shaky falling apart feeling. Normal, high, then low all in about four hours without any rhyme or reason as to why. Go figure.....

Jacqui,
You may want to Google [caffeine gluconeogenesis].
I stopped taking caffeine and it seems to have helped dropped readings a bit.

This has a graph of my morning bg's a few months ago. I have to be quick off the mark to avoid a liver dump.
