Hello to all UK based T2s out there, I am looking for some help!!! :help:
While appreciate all the advice from the worldwide community here I am after some localised food advice, often the food and drugs available in the US and elsewhere are either not availble in the UK or have completely different branding making them difficult to find.
I am 30 and have been T2 for 18 months nearly. I am taking 3x500mg Metformin daily. My last two HBA1C results have been OK, but going th wrong way (Jan 06 - 5.8, September 06 - 6.7).
I am trying to stick to a low GI diet (with pretty good success) but my sugars are still too high. Mornings no lower than 8 and after meals often up to 11. My GP seems to think my morning sugars are OK but I am not so convinced
I am looking for advice on how I can improve my eating habits within a low GI diet to try to reduce my sugars. I don't feel bad for them but I know that if I don't jump on them soon it is only going to get worse.
Thanks
Andy

I can't give any advice, but will tell you at the first I was put on metformin. Dr kept up'n it til I maxed out at 2500. I was also put on Actos. My A1c was 14.2. Couldn't get it down much. At that time I was dx as type 2. I changed to an Endo as I felt 1st dr was not being agressive enough. My new dr immediately put me on insulin and my bs started to come down. She did a test on me and found out I was Type 1 not 2. I have improved dramatically. So don't be afraid to ask questions of your Dr. Research the Disease all you can. Know that this forum will answer or give you their opionion on any concerns you might have. But stay focused on control. You'll get there. Good Luck!!:flowers:

Hello to all UK based T2s out there, I am looking for some help!!! :help: I have found it much more difficult to keep things under control in the States, but I guess that's largely because of being on holiday :)
My numbers are similar to yours, not too bad but no cause for complacency. I find several things help.
Lots of exercise, the more the better.
Last Saturday did a legbreaking 2 1/4 hours on the bike, then had a Pizza Express pizza (tsk tsk) for lunch, lowest ever reading a couple of hours later.
Habit: at work get used to eating salads at lunchtime
Habit: just eating tiny amounts of rice, pasta, potatoes when they're on the table.
No, or very little, beer :(
Wine instead :)
Measure morning, lunchtime (before), evening (before dinner) roughly the same time every day, to determine patterns.
HTH.

I think my biggest problem is combination of complacency and laziness after my last HBA1C I though things were going fine with my diet and life style while my HBA1C result came back as 5.8.
I need to improve my exercise, but I struggle as I have a tired pregnant wife at home.
I think exercise is the way forward

Fasting sugars seem to be a recurrant problem in my case. It comes ang goes... and usually the problem doesn't go away for long! Ah well...
I try to stick to a low GI diet just like you do. I find that eating a small portion of meat and lots of veggies for supper works well. I have a little protein before bed. For example a bit of cheese and an apple.
I was told by my GP in England that my fasting sugars should be under 7 mmolL. 3 times out of 5 they are. Sometimes I've been working extra hard on diet and exercise and I'm around 8 or 8.5 mmolL in the morning. It is so frustrating!!! Even infuriating at times. Must depend on which phase of the moon........................ :banghead:
A1C should not be a concern when it's under 7 mmolL or so I was told. My guess is that one's A1C should and will fluctuate.
Have you tried to fit in more exercise into your daily routine?

I am working on my exercise currently, I am taking a walk at lunch times instead of sitting in my car.
Last night really messed with my head. I had a low GI dinner, spagetti bolognaise. At bed time (2.5 hours later) I had a BG of 8.4, but this morning when I woke I was 10.5 !?!?!?!?!?!?
I have an appointment with the diabetes clinic next month so I will look for another referal to a dietician for some more help
