Is foamy urine always bad? There have been days were I have had real foamy urine.

Also had a Urine that smelled like rotten hay anyone ever had that? I associated that with insulin but is it?

I always thought it was sugar. Think about how hard your kidney's are working... Better protect them!

Well, it could be a urinary/kidney infection. If left untreated
it can get bad especially a kidney infection. A minor urinary
infection can be flushed out with lots of water but usually
returns if antibiotics aren't used.
It can also be an excess of protein in the urine or an std.

It could be that your not drinking enough fluids to dilute your urine.

Foamy urine is usually caused by excess protein. Have a doctor check your kidney function.

Indeed. Don't want to scare you, but foamy urine is usually associated with advanced diabetic kidney disease. Id get some Chem stix and check your urine very regulary. Not knowing your case though, I hope it is nothing.

Here is a weird fact I found out recently. When woman pee they usually don't have bubbles like men do. And I have no clue why.

Not as much distance from the target, perhaps?? Just an educated guess from a woman who lives with a house full of males!

As has been said protein (proteinuria) is usually the first thing that comes to mind with foamy urine in diabetics but there are many other possibilities. A chemical and microscopic urinalysis is warranted in this case.

I'm going to call my GP and get checked out. Thanks for the advise. After being non compliant patient for several months and all of the symptoms for the past 10 years I'm going to get it checked.

Keep you posted.

The urine strips are reagent strips for urinalysis. The ones I am familar with are called "Multistix 10 SG". They test 10 different things that may show up in the urine, including protein. I have never seen them OTC at any local stores. I had to order them on-line from a pharmacy.

A tip to anyone who tries their own urine analysis strips (you know, the kind that test ten different things on one strip that you can buy a bottle of 50 for less than the cost of the charge that a GP would bill your insurance)....

....Make sure they aren't expired...!!

I had a bottle that claimed my bilirubin level was dangerously high. Scared the heck out of me. Turned out to be bad strips.... (cofirmed with real lab analysis many times over). Even tap water showed high bilirubin levels.

Multistix 10 SG test

Leukocytes
Nitrite
Urobilinogen
Protein
pH
Blood
Specific Gravity
Ketones
Bilirubin
Glucose

I have never believed the results to be reliable.

Agreed! I was once SURE my dog had a bladder infection, but bad urine strips failed to detect her condition. She got worse, and I got newer strips--which showed her infection was severe, as I had originally thought.
