I am just wondering if anyone else notices the effects of depression on bgls? I know stress and mood do affect bgls... mine are typically high when I'm very stressed out, but I have particularly noticed that when I go through a period of depression my bgls shoot through the roof... and become quite uncontrolable. I know the best way to stop it is to get over depression, however it's not quite that simple all the time. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. Thanks.

I've not noticed any increase in trouble with blood sugar when I'm depressed, just less concern about it. However, I'm depressed most of the time so there is rarely any relief for me.
Yeh... depression seems to knock my levels up a bit. I think it's a natural reaction from the body - but also added to by the fact that if I'm feeling down I care a little less about what I eat. I'm less likely to get exercise. I'm more likely to forget insulin or stuff up the amount I'm taking.
Also it works the other way around - if my numbers are high it encourages depression, so I try as hard as I can to keep 'em good - and most importantly (to me anyway) balanced, with less spikes, as that seems to wear me out as if i'm going thru major mood swings.
Hey Blue Eyes - just noticed that you're from NZ too! Howdy neighbour! :wavey:

I am usually high when I am depressed/ stressed, but Im not sure wether that is because I comfort eat or just because of the adreniline.

i have found that fairly high blood sugars can have the effect of quickly dropping my mood. At times i've been feeling really down for no apparent reason, tested and been really high.

I think being depressed can be interpreted as stress in the body and can definitely impact blood sugar readings. I don't know that there's anything you can do to prevent it from happening- I mean, we all get stressed at times. But there are things you can do to cope with those difficult times... working out, taking a relaxing bath, talking to friends, visiting forums , etc...
I hope your mood improves soon :)

cool, thanks for all your replies. I'm starting to think that sometimes it's the levels that get me down... not always but it can be a challenging disease!

Music always does the trick for me, whenever I feel that way usually I listen to whatever music is in my mood then I feel better, usually with a shot or two of vodka!
