Well here is the dillio
I am a type 1 diabetic
I wasn't doing to bad got in with a religious group that told me that god would take care of it and to take a step of faith. (not that god wouldn't but let's just say the step of faith wasn't the best idea) but I stopped doing all my diabetic maintenance (as a step of faith) and even started drinking regular pop again. After a year I came back to my senses left the group and spent the next year trying to get my life back in order.

Now going on two years since I left the group I am still struggling to get my control back. I am finding alot of the information has changed and trying to get it all straight is very frustrating and difficult.

I am canadian and as you can see in my signature my HA1C's need some tending too although there has so far been no internal damage to kidney's or eyes. I am currently working on getting to know the new information regarding food intake and dieting, while also getting back into the habit of doing my bloodsugars and insulins again.

Starting over from scratch isn't easy nor is it fun but I am hoping to pick up some pointers and good info to help me out here. I learned early on that diabetes is different for everyone but the best information I find comes from people who have been through it before or still are.

well that is my story in a nut shell

Wow! Your A1c is dangerously high. If you have no complications, I presume you've not been diabetic for many years?? When is the last time you had your eyes checked for retinopathy?

I had my eyes checked within the last year and was told they were fine. I have been diabetic for almost six years. When I left the group my HA1c was 17 but has since come down but it still needs to come down. And i do know that it is still high but i am working on it and it is slowly coming down.

I think I welcomed you in a different thread, but welcome again :hello:.

I applaud you for recognizing that you need to start making changes to get back on track. Take it one step at a time :creep: and you'll get there. But I think you'd be a little more successful with help from a doctor and CDE/dietician in your corner. Having medical help and advice will keep you in check and also their advice can be very valuable.

Also, keep reading up on this disease and learning. THe more you know about it, the better off you will be. And do all those other necessary things- you know, test and take your insulin as recommended.

Good luck :)

Welcome. I'm glad to hear that you left that group before you did any serious damage, including death. For many years I had awful control, but it was due to no health insurance which meant I never saw a doctor and rarely tested my BG. When I finally got insurance my A1c was over 15, so I know how horrible it is to live with such high numbers all the time. The good news is that you can get your A1c down if you put some effort into it. Good luck, and if you have any questions you'll find everyone here is very willing to help and advise.

I don't trust religious groups especially for medical issues. Religion to me is almost like the bad apple from Eve, it only causes nonsense and death usually.

Thank you for the support. I still have nothing against religion but that group just like anything there are good and bad and that one was on the bad end.

But now time for some good news tonight I had some good blood sugars
at 8 (supper at work) i was 9.9 and then when I left work at about 12:30 am I was 4.6
I am so happy I haven't had a low in months and that 4.6 is just a nice surprise even if it brought shakes and a headache.
