Hi all,
I was diagnosed with Type II right after my honeymoon last December - Doc found my blood sugar was around 345. Put me on daily Glipozide, and I meter (Accu-Chek Aviva) 4 times a day. My wonderful wife (married Nov 2005) keeps me straight on my diet - we're both somewhat gourmet cooks - and we both try to exercise as many times a week as possible. My BS -
7-day avg 108, 14-day avg 113, 30-day avg 124. My last A1C was 6.7. No real problems except for peripheral neuropathy - my feet are killing me. Just got put on Neurontin to try to stop the pain.
I'm not having too many problems with my BS - sometimes it gets pretty low midmorning, and I snack on rice cakes & chunky peanut butter, then I'm usually starved by the time dinner rolls around (5:30ish). I travel quite a bit with my job, and I have to watch myself pretty closely when dining out. I'm a big guy on a larger frame (268 lbs, 6'3"), and my biggest problem is portion control.
I just turned 59 yrs old, and I'm not going to let diabetes rule my life as I get ready to retire...
