Hallelujah! I'm losing weight

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in late July of this year, at which time I weighed 240Lbs. My Doctor put me on Metformin 500Mg BID. I changed my diet to low sugar/low carb and started exercising more. As of the other morning I have lost 26.5Lbs. I am really excited, since I have been trying for years to lose weight with very little success.

So... Is it the Metformin that is making me lose the weight? If so, I wish I would have found Metformin years ago. Most of the disagreeable side effects have gone away now. It seems like every 2-3 days I have lost another pound. I am down to 213 at this point. I would like to get down to the 160-170 range, but my clothes are all getting loose. I have had to buy a new belt and people are telling me it is about time to buy some new clothes. I am going to weight until I get down to 200 before I buy any new clothes. I don't see any use in buying new clothes every few weeks, it this consistent weight loss continues. I have my fingers crossed.

That sounds great!! Are your FSBS doing well also? That would be my only concern. I was type 2, taking metformin, and started losing weight slowly. (Got into a bad habit of not testing since I had been doing so well!) Next thing I knew, I was 500+ one morning. That was the true reason I had been dropping weight. I hope your weight loss is from the change in diet you have made. Congratulations & good luck.:congrats:

I have been between 89 to 127 over the last week. Personally I think the medicine is what is causing the weight loss, because I haven't ever been able to lose weight easily before.

In the beginning the Metformin was causing me to be slightly sick to my stomach and for quite a long time I was having constant diarrhea... Thank God that part seems to be over.

Congratulations! I know nothing about oral meds, but don't give the metformin all the credit. You say you've changed your diet and have started to exercise and that's helping you to lose weight, even if the medication is as well.

I've lost a lot of weight since I started pumping. Over the last 1 1/2 years I've spent a fortune on new clothes. It's great to go down a size but expensive!

SHIBOLETHDUDE,

Congrats! I'm not taking any med's and started VLC'ng about 6 months ago. Went from 220 down to 175, so I know what you mean about clothes. My shorts are so loose my "equipment" falls out. LOL

I am down 28Lbs so far. But that has been a little shakey over the last week or so. My lowest was -28, but I have gone up and down 2-3 Lbs since the weather has been colder and my exercise has been more sporadic. I will try to keep the exercise up.

Congratulations on the weight loss and keep it up!

Metformin does not cause weight gain but I don't believe it's been proven that it aids in losing weight. I think it's a combination of you cutting back on the carbs and the exercising that you're doing. Great job!

I've been on Metformin almost 4 years, along with insulin. I thought for sure my endo would take me off of it when I switched to the pump last December, but he kept me on it. I had lost 28lbs the first couple of months after being dx'd. My weight remains steady, give or take a pound or two.

I am just eating more protein, more fiber rich foods and walking 1/2 hr per day. As of this week I have lost 30Lbs since late July. I must say I am not working extremely hard at it, which is what really surprises me about it. The most weight I have ever lost on any diet was 21Lbs on the "cabage soup (poop) Diet". Just as the name says... the emphasis is on the poop. That was mostly watter loss, which came right back on.
