Hi everyone.
I'm a 45 year old male, that if I said, spent a lot of time in the gym, would be an understatement (I know...Need to get a life).:)
I recently had my bloods done and was horrified to find that my glucose level was 8.3 (fasting). I consequently found that I had elevated Blood presure and a high colestrol count of 6.1 to boot.:frown: To say I was a little concerned would also be an understatement:frown:
My diet for some time now, has been oily fish, chicken breast, veg and fruit etc. High protein and I'm told a little too high in carbs. I'm a big guy that happens to be (I thought), very fit and disaplined.
Being a rugby, squash player and all round kinda athelete, I was naive enough to believe that you can't feel as good and as strong as I do and not have a problem. I was always raised to believe that you are your best doctor when it comes to how you feel and that when there is a problem, SEE SOMEONE! The strange thing for me is that I've had NO symptoms and just by chance I went to my GP for an unrelated problem. My GP informed me that I was pre diabetic, a new labeling I hear, but a growing concern amongst the population.
I recently purchased an accu check glucose testing kit and have been taking the test 3 times a day before food, afternoon and just before bed (certainly makes you a little paronoid).:)
? Whats a normal reading for those 3 times of the day?
If anyone has any thoughts and ideas on what I could be doing wrong and anything I could try, that's a natual solotion to bringing my glucose level down (I get the feeling I could be missing something), please do let me know. This is all new to me and just a little confusing and alarming.:)
Many thanks people.

Welcome aboard. Seems like your post made it to 2 different threads.

You're fasting bg, ideally, should be below 100.

Hi & Welcome to the forum.

No two diabetics are alike, so my "target range" may not be the same before and after meals as someone elses. I prefer to be 80-110 before a meal and no higher than 140 two hours after.

Were you to have no glucose metabolsm problems, those reading should be at 85 (or 4.5-5.0) plus or minus a few points. More important are the fasting level (when you've just got up), and the 2 hour after meal level. Your fasting level should be under 100 and under 140 post-meal even after a meal with lots of carbs.
It's good that you found out early that you may have a problem, the sooner you begin to treat this the less chance for complications.

Welcome to the group, Daza! I'm a newbie to diabetes as well (dx'd 9-11). The numbers I've found on websites that work best for me are:

Fasting (before breakfast): Under 110 (100 ideal)

Before meals: Less than 130

One hour after meals: Under 180

Two hours after meals: Under 140

Before bed: Around 130 (I tend to go hypo at night)

Again, these are the numbers I strive for....as KGM said, everyone is different. My number the day I was diagnosed was 417 and 433 later that same day. Now I'm in my target range most of the time. What a difference a month makes.....hang in there!
