View Full Version : Bad Low....

Well, as the title states, I had a pretty bad low tonight. :( It happened cause I bolused before dinner, and wound up not eating (cause a hair was found in my soup - well, hair went from soup to mouth & it Wasn't mine! Ewww!). I'd also bought a dinner to take home for later or tomorrow, as the soup was so big, it would normally count as a meal.

Anyway, we went over to Wally World (before heading home) and were looking at birthday cards for a family member, when I started feeling a little wobbly. Hubby grabbed a fruit breakfast bar out of my bag & had me eat it. Well, must not have worked, cause the rest came on pretty quick. In the distance between the card aisle to checkout (which isn't far), I started getting really bad....my knees were trying to give out. Had to have hubby on one side & Carwy on the other. Hubby bought some Sprite & a candy bar, and they walked me over to a bench. I felt kind of "out of it," but was lucky that they were there. It's interesting, cause when I was in the card aisle, I started saying "I have to go - I have to sit down." Even though I was somewhat out of it, subconsciously, I knew what I had to do. I also knew to take my bags out of the cart & remained in control of them at all times (lol, that's a woman for ya! ;)).

We didn't even take the time to check my blood, as it all happened so fast, but when one's legs are trying to fall out from under them...

Young lady! Was there a reason you didn't have glucose tabs in your pocket? :sheep:

Dewey! A breakfast bar won't work that fast. When you are feeling that bad, you need something that will kick in instantly. I'm glad you had the boys with you, just think if you were alone! How are you feeling now?

I'm a-ok now....running on all cylinders. ;) I just tested a short time ago and was 123, so that's good. I also ate a little of the meal that I brought home (chicken curry - Yum Yum!).

You & Cyborg are both right about the breakfast bar, but the Sprite definitely did help. :)

Wow, sorry to hear about the low. Those suck, but thank goodness you had your hubby and Carwy to help! Have you ever tried using raisins to treat a low? They work very well and seem to stay fresh(or at least edible) forever. In fact, I take raisins w/me most of the time. Just have to make sure my kids don't eat them!:)

Glad you are feeling better!

Thanks Lynne. :) I used to eat raisins, then quit for a while....it's like I go through phases where I'll eat them, then I won't. That said, they are handy & do well on bringing the bg up. Good suggestion! Thanks!

I hate that feeling! It's been a longwhile but the wobbly knees (and collapsing and trying to get back up) are pretty scary. Did you get shakey hands at all? What's most important is you were with it, which is good to hear considering the situation. Blacking out is never fun. Sorry it happened. Did you learn anything from it?

Geez Dewey, I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad low
while away from home. I've had a few(okay many ;)lows when
I was out shopping, thankfully not serious. If I'm too low to
realize I have my juice, a chocolate bar, and candy/sugar in my
purse then I just take a 3-pak juice and chocolate bar off the
shelf and inhale. :) And I pay at the cash when I leave. I'm
glad that you're feeling Better. :)

Oh my! That's pretty scary ... Thank goodness you had your men (lol) with you at the time and that you are ok.

It can be frightening when a low sneaks up on us like that- hopefully, this type of thing wont happen again anytime soon!

Take care of yourself :top:

Sorry to read about your low and glad you're feeling better. I always carry a package of Starbursts in my purse. I find they work fast and taste better than glucose tabs!
