I have always noticed that sometimes when my bg gets really low I will get this hot fire inside. My mom who had been through menopause told me what her hot flashes were like and I always felt like my symptom of low bg was like experiencing a hot flash. Today in our newspaper there was an article about just that feeling. Very interesting. Read about it here:http://www.statesman.com/search/content/news/stories/local/10/09/9hotflashes.html

I sorta get it... I'm both diabetic AND menopausal (at the age of 31... hurumph...) so I can go from a low-flush to a hot-flush in moments! They must be fairly different coz I can tell which is which - but that's just me.

BTW in New Zealand - and many other parts of the world - a hot flash is called a hot flush, it's not a typo :D

Interesting but in my case a hot flush doesn't correlate with low blood sugars.

I'm 54 and perimenopausal. During the day I can definitely recognise the difference between hypo and hot flush though there are some similarities in feeling. During the night I sometimes wake with hot sweats and I usually test to be sure but my BS is not normally low.

Yes tonight I dropped from 180BG to a 101 within an hour. I got this horrible Heartburn and had some sweating going on have no idea why I was dropping so fast. I wanted to get a drink of water to wash the acid off of my flapper so to speak.

This heartburn just wasn't annoying it down right hurt.

During my long bout with diabetes I have had many very atypical signs that my blood suar was going low. From a tingly feeling in my mouth before my teens to fingers feeling cold in my teens. If a hot flash is your signal that you are going low I don't think it should be too concerning, but not a bad idea to get it checked out as hot flashes can indicate other changes and/or problems in the body.

I've had a few hot flushes since my hyst. I kept my ovaries but it seems quite a high number of women experience menopause nonetheless after such an op. Those hot flushes are similar to BG dropping low and fast but not completely identical. Hot flushes start in the chest but go upward, until I have the sensation the heat is coming out from the top of my head. Very unpleasant feeling!!! When BG drops fast it also starts in the chest but spreads all over my body. Both will give me nausea. I check BG nonetheless.

Kia Ora Emm!!
I knew what you meant!!
I can tell the difference between a low flush/flash/sweat and a "tropical Storm" hot one. For me a low is more of a cold sweat, plus I feel off. When a tropical Storm hits I get prickly hot, the heat rises rapidly (steaming up my glasses) then the sweat pours. I don't feel much different except for the fanning or pulling my shirt or jersey out to let the steam escape!!
In the night, I will get up and test as I sometimes am not that sure. Keep a small towel to dry off those hot body parts and a large glass of water to replace the fluids by your bedside, then continue checking your eyelids for holes!

I get them occasionally too, but I always sweat. My other symptom is I get tunnel vision very bad. We all have different symptoms, but as long as you know YOURS, its all good :)
