Woah! That's crazy. I wonder if they'll figure out who has been making them. First it was counterfeit drugs, and now it's test strips?

The list of counterfeited products is too long to list. Pick an item at random off the top of your head, and chances are there is a fake version of it being sold somewhere around the world. Purses, jeans, operating systems, watches...yada,yada, yada...

Fake test strips just seem difficult to make in a "basement" operation. It'd be "easy" (not that I could do it in a million years!) to make purses, jeans, and copies of DVD's, or even fake, non-working medication.

But to pass something off as a test strip just seems difficult!

I guess that's why they were caught, eh?

I've seen documentaries on this sort of thing whereby a plant makes "legal" stuff, AND counterfeits.

Thanks for the article! That is an eye-opener.

This explains a lot of things I didn't understand. When I was an intern at Intel Corp., there were discussions on how to limit counterfit network cards. I never understood how those cards came to be, as the "Made in China" labels didn't reveal the story to me.

And now we know where OneTouch strips are made now, too.

P.S. I always thought New Balance was a "Made in America" company. Maybe they meant the box was made in America, and the shoe in China. *sigh*

I think the only thing still made here would be hamburgers and loans. I'm not sure about the loans would count since China is loaning us the money to buy their products.

That's creepy! How in the heck? On a goofy note, do they work!? lol - j/k

I remember there was a company called "First Choice," who sold Profile strips for less than One Touch. However, Lifescan quickly took them over & put them under. :( Personally, I liked First Choice strips just as well - they were exactly like One Touch's & were just as accurate.

That said, there could be accuracy issues with the 'counterfeit' strips (that are circulating).

I just saw an ad for the news at 5pm (NY/NJ) on ABC and it includes a segment on the one touch strip thing.

The #1 source of counterfit products. Just because it says it's real and genuine doesn't mean it is.
