I've been a Type I diabetic since age 5. I was diagnosed in 1973. So far I have no complications. I do experience some hypoglycemic unawareness, which I have been told is a side effect of switching from animal insulin to biosynthetic "human" insulin. I manage that by simply testing as often as I can.
My biggest problem is my unpredictable work schedule. Some days are twelve hours long - 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. or even later. Days are never nine to five. My biggest concern is my meal schedule. I eat breakfast at the same time every day (around 7:00 a.m.) but if I don't start work until 11:00 a.m., I don't get lunch until 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon. I try to snack as much as possible, but it's hard to snack and work at the same time.
