Thanks, I might fill it out and ask for one. After looking at the Bayer site I realized that was one of the meters I used in the past. Not the Asenscia Contour, one of their older meters. It was during the time I had no insurance and decided I should probably try to test every once in awhile. My original meter was already very outdated. I think my reason for getting the Bayer was because the test strips were individually sealed, so I didn't have to worry about them going bad in an open vial. Since they were so expensive I wasn't even testing every day, and usually was just testing in the morning or before bed when I did.
I sent it to Lifescan after they sent me a free One Touch Profile.

I had gotten this one from a previous freebie offer (It might be in the Chit-Chat freebie board -- if not, I'll need to add it).
Basically, it takes 15-20 seconds to give a result. Not bad if you test a few times a day, but horrible if you test 10 times a day!

The program that I get my meter and strips from is switching from Accu Chek Advantage that takes about 30 seconds to the Contour, so the timing will be a little better. I pay $10 copay for 90 days of strips with this program, I cant afford the cost of 400 strips for another meter out of my own pocket.

Good grief! I'm sure a 10-second upgrade will make a huge difference in your daily wait time!

It may not make that big a difference in my wait time, but without insurance to cover a different meter ( one with a 5 second time ) and strips, I will have to go with what the program I have, will cover and at this time it is only the Contour.

I have no insurance, I am in a program thru local county hospital, that based on income, I get prescriptions and see primary doctor and referrals to the endo and other specialist for 10 or 20 dollar copay . The only meter that has been covered for the last 4 years I have been in the program was the Accu Chek Advantage. They are now switching to the Ascensia Contour and that will be the only strips I will get thru them. If I use any other meter, then I would have to pay for them full price out of my own pocket for the strips. I am able to test 4 or more times a day using this program. I get a 90 day supply of strips (400) , I could not afford to pay for it on my own and see a doctor and all the extras that are needed.

Abbott has patient assistance program. If you have no insurance or insurance that does not cover strips they will cover your needs for the year and then it has to be renewed yearly. You can call the 800# and get the application.
Hope this helps.

Yes , I have the application on the way, I spoke with an Abbot rep yesterday, they are sending me a Flash in the mail this week also.
I am going to talk to the patient rep at the hospital and make them aware of it. They have helped me get my Lantus before and also NPH and Reg when I was taking those insulins.

I got my Contour by Fedex on Wedsnday and a Flash on Friday. I only got 5 strips with Contour and none with the Flash. Called Bayer and they are supposed to send additional strips and some coupons, and Abbot is sending out some strips for the Flash.
In Saturday's mail, I got from signing up on the DLife site , another Contour.

Gee it is like Christmas for meters at the moment!
I brought my two favourite Medisence (Abbott) meters with me when I moved from Australia, and have been using those for the last few months. They are the Optium Xceed (Precision Xtra) and the Sof-tac.
In the last 4 weeks though I have been given soooo many meters! My endo gave me a Ultra2 and a Flash, and then I was given an Ultra Smart by a rep (who also said he would leave a spare and a cable at my endo's office for me), and today the Ascensia Contour arrived courtesy of d-life!
I am also getting another Ultra smart from Lifescan in the mail after doing the online thing last week.
Oh and I am going to get the Minimed pump - so there will be a BD logic with that. Apart from the Accu-check is there anything I'm missing from my new collection?
Perhaps we can do something productive and each write a review of our new 'toys' for people to refer back to later?
