I talked to the Animas rep. at the symposium/seminar I attended, and he said he was unsure about the release date, too. Sorry I couldn't help more with this, but hopefully soon, the patch sets will become available! That would be awesome!

I heard that they just didn't get consistant results with these sets. It was 4 years ago that they started talking about them, and it was one of the reasons that I didn't go with a Paradigm for my daughter's first pump. It seemed like such a great product, but now I doubt that we will ever see them. Someone I know tried their other sets and said that the adhesive is not good.

I think there's another maker of something like that as well. My understanding is that the absortion rate just isn't there. You need insulin to get under the skin layer and into the fat for it to be effective. With those short needles, it just pierces the top few layers of the skin and doesn't get into the fat. So the insulin either takes an extremely long time to get absorbed or in the case of a large bolus, it would not go in at all and possibly "squirt" back out around the needle.

Yeah, I was worried about that. Figures.

The picture is hard to see but does this infusion set have 4 tiny needles instead of just one?

It's actually 5 tiny needles about 2-4 mm long. This is also how Animas plans to make their Micropump work. Hopefully they get more success than simplechoice.

I discussed this product with Simple Choice early this year. They said the problem holding it up (back then) is the the fact that if one of those tiny needles gets loose, all the insulin will come out of that one; therefore the patient doesn't get their insulin. in other words--think "path of least resistance".
I don't know what's changed since then that allowed this product to come to market. Don't forget the Quick Sets aren't allthat wonderful either for many of us, so "let the buyer beware".
There--I've given everyone fair warning about this product...

Did you mean the 500 Plus, or something else I'm unaware of??

Nope not the 500 club! A 2500+ group was brought up a few times but I didn't know if it was true or not. What a disappointment, no 2500 club! LOL

Thanks for the correction. My guess is it may never. I should have read the OP's post more carefully...

I agree that we may never see it. I kind of question them leaving this on their site as if it is going to be available soon. It looks exactly the same as it did 4 years ago when I first heard about it. I signed up for an e mail when it will be available. Guessing that list is pretty long by now...

Reason I asked is because I noticed it on diabetesnet listed as coming soon.
What are these clubs I am reading about on this thread?

And that's why we're not suppose to discuss them.
Good to know there's no 2500+ club, now I can ease up on posting a bit.
