Hey everyone,

I've got a quick question; I noticed on many cereals that not far from the "Charbohydrates" there is something labled "Other Carbohydrates". What are these? I havn't had a bowl of cereal in a month or so becuase I don't know how to count these [or if I even should] and I don't want to screw up :p

Thanks in advance,
Chad

Don't worry about the dietary fiber, sugar alcohol, or glycerine. These are sometimes listed as carbs but they do not affect your blood sugar.

The way the CDE and Dietician explained it to us (wife and me), you focus in on the total Carbs, the other listings are simply a break-down of what types of Carbs there are in the food--been working for me so far--last A1c--5.2

So I don't bother with those "Other Carbs and just bolus for the total carbs

Except for total carbs containing over 2g of fibre; you will need to subtract the net fibre out of the total cho's as it is not digested.

Carbs are carbs are carbs, other or not. My CDE says deduct 5 or more gms of fiber, so I guess there's some debate to be had over that. But my point is the same, carbs are carbs.

It's kind of like doing taxes. Your total carbs are like your gross wages, which you enter the total on line 6a. Then your fiber is like your deductable expenses. The total goes on line 17b. You then subtract line 17b from line 6a, and put the total on line 21. That is your adjusted gross carbs.

Ok I have been doing my taxes, and my brain is a little fried right now. Sorry!

Haha, thanks for the replys everyone.

When I come to that point in my life, I'll now know how to do my taxes, and I'll do them while eating a nice bowl of cereal :D
