Is there any OTC cold/flu medicines that someone with hypothyroid/type 1 can take? I know they make sugar free cough drops...are these ok in your expierence?
Thanks!

I don't even bother to worry about it; Most of the warnings on the "regular" meds are there because the manufacturer never bothered to test the meds on people with diabetes...or hypothyroid...or lupus...or...
If they didn't test it, then they don't want you suing them if you take it, so they put those warnings as CYA.
Now, who knows, maybe these cold/flu meds are indeed bad for Type 1/hypothyroid sufferers...maybe these meds are only bad for Type 1/hypos who are red-heads. I guess I take my chances.
In any case, practice some common sense. Try to take your thyroid meds and your cold meds APART--Synthroid/levothyroxine are notorious for finnicky uptake when taken with food or meds. Monitor yourself for bad reactions, ie heart palpitations, rash, etc (Being sick doesn't help, obviously). Check your sugars often. Stay on a schedule with the over the counter meds.
The sugar-free stuff is generally the same meds and dosages as the "regular" stuff, so don't think you are getting jipped if you choose to go that route. And if you have any concerns, call your doc.
Oh, one last thing: When I get sick, IF I choose to medicate, I try and get something that addresses the symptoms I have and not take a "shot-gun" med that takes care of "sniffling sneezing coughing congestion" when all I have is coughing...
