i dont know the portion size...

But how would you count for a "standard" sized portion of Salmon steak??

Might be going out to a resturaunt tonight and i always have the salmon steak there... it's LOVELY! There's not much else that comes with it, just a few green beans and some sauce...

The biggest worry there is the sauce.

Now as for the salmon, it's protein. Some diabetics find they need to account for protein by converting it to an equivalent number of carbs, some find protein has little or no effect upon their blood sugar.

The best way to approach it, IMO, is try to find an accurate count on the carbs for the beans and sauce. Bolus for that, then monitor BGLs afterwards. If 3 or 4 hours later you're finding your sugars are remaining higher than expected, the protein of the salmon may be having effect.

Of course, this also rather dependent on if you've got your basal pretty well on target and all that.

Just keep making records, and making notes. And when trying something out, aim conservative so as to let your sugars maybe be a bit high rather than plummeting low.

I think im just gonna go for about 2units before the meal, bearing in mind i simply CANNOT miss out on my fav desert (pannacotta) which is mostly a milky jelly thing with vanilla beans in it. I usually have the same thing when i go to that place so i can trial and error it each time. im debating 2 or 3 units to count for the beans, sauce and desert, but taking my insulin AFTER the meal because of the delay from the protein

I have not found much of any delay from eating protein in a meal. Usually my delays only come from eating high amounts of fat. But everyone is different. you should check to see what you are after you eat before you take it to see how much of an effect the protein has on your bs.

Rzr... mean... my mouth is watering just looking at that...

Stu, I love Salmon, and the only time I have an issue with my bgs is if I go to TGI Fridays and indulge in the Jack Daniels Glaze... mmmmmmmm... Now that is good stuff...

I have yet to have salmon in a British retaurant where the portion is anything other than minute. Some American restaurants are another matter. Either way though it doesn't seem to impact on my sugars at all.
