Been pumping with Disetronic for 7 years now.
Minimed Rep is coming by on Wednesday to show me the 722.
What should I know about this pump? It is frustrating that there is no pump simulator on their website like every other competitor does. Programming will be a big focus for me.
Going into it, I have few concerns, if people here can address them I'd appreciate it, I have never even handled a Minimed pump since the 507C at a group demo. I've never used one at all.
Disetronic / Animas / Deltec all deliver basal insulin every 3 minutes, and even the largest boluses get delivered within 2-3 minutes max. Minimed has always from the days of using its stepper motors has delivered insulin in 0.1 increments. What does that mean exactly? Is there some fomula to this so I can calculate in what increments my basal & boluses will get delivered?
Use of only a AAA Battery. How long does your pump last using a AAA, and how much insulin a day do you use? I'm usually around 100 units a day. My DTronPlus can easily go 3-4 weeks.
Proprietary infusion set connectors. I have a very large supply of infusion sets that I've built up over the years in case of an emergency. Is there any chance that Minimed would take some in trade for Paradigm infusion sets. Hopefully the pump blows me away, because if it doesn't I'm not sure what I would do. Do you find them any less secure than Luer Locks?
Can you bolus through your clothing? I usually keep my pump in my pocket. I can feel the tactile buttons of my pump and press a button for each 1/2 unit. The pump confirms each button bress with a vibrating buzz. Will I be able to do the same with a Minimed?
I've been used to having the luxury of a backup pump at all times. I'll still have my older pumps, of course, but different infusion sets, batteries, etc. What kind of issues have required you to send your pump back to Minimed? My D-Tron has never failed in 4 years, but I have sent it back multiple times because the silicone guide rings fall off - and I can't feel the buttons with out thse under clothing otherwise. Every time I sent it back I always had the luxury of awaitng for its replacement first since techinically it did not fail on me.
