So - yesterday, I change my quick set...check BS 1 hr later, and it's 140, check 2 hrs later, it's 190 - correct, check 1 hr later, it's 260-correct, and check 1/2 hr. later - 350. So, I go to change my set, pull off the sticky, and there was NO CANULA there -- no wonder! This ever happen to anyone?

And you are positive you don't have a canula in you? Just double checking on that part.
Sounds like the quick set problem still goes on despite class action lawsuits against MM for them.

I hadn't heard about the lawsuits. I used Quick Sets for all of my pumping time and had some problems with them, but was scared to try other sets (better the devil you know). What is the nature of the lawsuits?
Stumpkins, I hope your blood sugar is now under control and you have checked your site carefully--if the canula did break off, you could wind up with a nasty infection.

The lawsuits all come after the 2004 FDA Level 1 recall that Minimed volunteered to do.

I hand't even thought that it could be stuck somewhere in my skin!! But - it looks fine, feels fine, no red spots....
My sugar is under control, and came down within the hour of getting the GOOD set in!!!!

I use the quick sets, too. Have they redesigned them? Changed them somehow? I just started so .. don't know any better. And agree- I like the devil I know since I've had no trouble with them. (All 5 changes that is!)
Because I'm on steroids right now I used much more insulin than usual and had to change the reservoir last night - a day earlier than usual. I went ahead and changed everything because I couldn't figure out how to do it any differently. If you're changing the tubing, but not the reservoir you just reconnect and prime? If you're just changing the set you don't need to prime? Since I get 10 cannulas and 10 tubings it just seemed practical to change it all out.

Wouldn't you have a wet spot where your set was if you didn't have a cannula in it.

I've had Quick-Set cannulas bend and end up not even going into the skin. They'd be completely bent, stuck to the adhesive. Never had one completely missing, though.
I still get mad when I think of all the problems I had with those sets and how MM refuses to admit anything is wrong.

I have stopped using skin preps and now my sets are sticking. Last week I had three fall off. Sheesh.... always something.

Those lawsuits all concerned the Quick Set Plus infusion sets, not the Quicksets. The Quick Set Plus were designed for use on Paradigm pumps only. The original Quick Sets were discontinued for Paradigm pumps (they continued to be available in the luer version)
They were a redesign of the original Quick Sets and came from a different manufacturer (If memory serves correctly, they came from from Minimed itself) They had a connector that could swivel, different sticky tape and other changes. There were many problems with them and being Paradigm-specific, there were no alternative straight-in sets available. Understandably, Paradigm Quick Set Plus users were upset and made a fuss with the FDA.
While this may be related because they're both Minimed brands and Minimed may have changed something in the present Quick Sets, the lawsuits concern a completely different infusion set.

David, i agree with everything that you said, except that there WAS an alternate straight in set available, thank goodness! It was the Sof set and it was the only thing that got us through. I'm not sure whether they still make them or not, but I still have a couple. Mary

I also agree with this but my alternate was silouhettes. The quick sets now are the original quicksets..after the many issues they stopped the production of PLUS and went back to the Originals....
I was one of the users although I didnt fuss but just changed sets..(After spending two days in touch with my Dr every hour on getting my BS down.)
Also just as input, although I was not getting insulin with these sets my pump was not giving me a no delivery alarm even with the cannula being bent.I think this is mainly where the lawsuit is coming into play as users were ending up going to hospital.I was lucky and had a great Endo. that saved me from the hospital.

I actually like the idea behind the QS Plus. But they failed. I used about a box or so and had one not work properly. It took me about a year to finally call and get mine replaced. The CSR actually commented on how long I had had them.
I've never had a missing canula. Plenty of bent ones after insertion though.
One time I changed my site and put it just a little too far back and my sugars shot up to 450. I just kept giving myself 10 unit boluses until b/g started coming down. Took almost 100 units. After that the site was great. I was drinking so much water I actually couldn't drink anymore. Now I keep syringe and insulin at work. That was whacked!

OOPS!!, I stand corrected. Thank you! I'd forgotten about those Sof Sets, even though I began pumping with them. Yes, they're still made but I don't know how many still use them.

I've been told that the pump won't give a NO DELIVERY alarm unless you bolus more than 3 units. With the current Quick-Sets, I often didn't get any alarm either until I had to bolus a bigger amount.
