I am Pachomius, male, 69 years old, in quite good health and zest for life.

I joined this forum in order to obtain medical information and instruction for my wife.

She is also 69 years old but younger by some six months.

She has had heart bypass, angioplasty, mastectomy, is stubbornly and gravely diabetic and hypertensive, and has kidneys which according to a nuclear diagnostic procedure have only 28% function -- though I believe that is better than having only one kidney.

She is living and working all right except when she to my impression has no engagements which I consider exciting for her for the day, in which situation she tends to feel dizzy, does not get up from bed, and tells me she is weak, also she wears a long face.

What is exciting day for her where she can overcome all dizziness, weakness, etc.? When she is going to her work or on weekends she has appointments to appear before a group to talk about basically how to live life and have a purpose. that is also essentially and principally her job on office days.

What about myself? A retired philosophy professor. every healthy. Taking health as good grades in school, if my wife and I are sister and brother in school with devoted parents who provide us with all the best resources in order to get good grades in school, I would be a valedictorian and she a repeater.

We must have spent and are still spending 45% percent of our life savings on her medical needs -- luckily we are still earning everyday, fairly good. If not for her medical needs we should be using our money for a lot of luxury activities like eating in very fancy restaurants -- not that I enjoy that, traveling with a good pocketbook (I like that), etc.

Our savings are still all right, meaning our financial assets and earnings are always more than sufficient, considering however that we are thrifty folks -- actually we just don't go for a lot of things which are to our mind are just not necessary to have a comfortable existence, although others might consider them necessary, like for example changing cellphones every time a new model comes out.

So much for my background and my wife's; I am here for my wife's sake, because I am her 24 hours daily caregiver and DIY doctor, i.e., physician -- for people also call me doc because I am a Ph.D.

Please read my post on insulin injection and type 2 diabetes.

Thanks for your attention, and I hope I can find some information and instruction here useful for my poor wife.

Welcome to our family. :wavey: Glad you joined. You need to realize that someone with Diabetes will have many off days. And sounds like when she has no obligations for the day she may feel her condition more. Bless her heart, she really has a lot of problems to deal with as you do , too. Try to get her to an Endo. Only a Dr that knows Diabetes will be able to correctly assign the right meds for her. Since she has so much wrong with her she will need some "fine tuning" her meds. Good Luck...
