Hello everyone. I am new here, looks like a good place to chat. I am a T1 for about 2 years now. My last A1C's have been 6.5, 6.2, 6.5, and last one 7.4. I think the next one in a month will be about 6.7 I am actually one of those people who ARE scared. Freaked out thiking about all the complications that arise. Thinking about when i will be getting ready to go "upstairs" ? I hope i am not the only one scared. So far on Levemir and Novolog. Thats about it !

Welcome - I think almost everyone has some fear related to their condition. I sure do. It's a motivation to do what I can to avoid those things.

If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment. Marcus Aurelius:

Hi TC :hello:

Nice having you join us :)... I think it's normal to be a little fearful of the complications that could arise- let's face it, those aren't nice things. But I think keeping good control and taking care of yourself can really make a difference in preventing problems from happening.

Hope we'll be seeing you around ;)

No seriously, I had a scared day and a good cry just today... it's very normal...

Welcome to DF, TC, you'll get used to the madhouse soon enough!

there is nothing to be scared of, really. You will not ship off this mortal coil tomorrow, this week, next month, or even next year due to diabetes, as long as you follow what you're taught and stay in reasonable control.

You will also not lose any limbs, unless you start sticking them in your lawn mower!

I've had T1 for almost 24 years now, and suffer from no complications...... and this is with only modest control as a kid, and only better in the past 5 or 6 years.

Should you be aware now of your body, your sugars, what you eat, etc? Yes. But the biggest mistake you can make is to let it dominate your life. As I've said before, I think of my diabetes on average of 4 times a day. This is when I take my insulin. Other then that, unless I go low or run high, I'm more apt to think about hockey, The Office, or try to sneak a look at the Sunshine Girl in the paper.... ;)

So releax, have fun.... if you go high, don't panic, just give some more insulin, or exercise....

Welcome to our family. :wavey: Glad you joined us. Lots of information to learn here. I try to get those dark and scary thoughts away but they sure are a reality. Just makes you think about how you treat your body and also others around you.

Hi TC,
Welcome aboard. I'm a type1 for 47 yrs now and still giving out. All you have to do is maintain good control and you shouldn't have any serious problems. Your A1c's show that you are copeing very well, so keep it like that.
