Hi all! :wavey:
I'm about to get an insulin pump. I have met with reps for both companies, but I'm still not sure which pump I want to go with. I like that animas is smaller and waterproof (although I am not sure if I trust actually going swimming with it on) but I have heard much more praise about Minimed. I've read a lot about Animas pumps not working and people having to go though 4 of them or more. I like both pumps pretty much equally, so any input would be great!!
Thanks,
Danielle

Amen, Spike.
Welcome to the forums, Danielle. :shakehand
I think the best thing to do is ask to see each pump in person. Play with buttons and see how each pump feels in your hands. Check the various menus on each pump, and see which one has the most desirable features. Also, makea list, as it will really help you in making a more definitive decision....For example:
I love the Cozmo because it's:
1. Waterproof
2. Very customizable
3. Sturdy
4. Has a lot of memory & can store many events in history
5. Time & current basal displayed on "screen saver"
6. Can be altered by pump or via computer (through the Ir port)
...etc.
Some of the things I love about the Animas (IR1250):
1. Small
2. Easy menu options
3. Tactile light button (can turn on/off at user's will)
4. Color & custom covers (to protect pump)
And some things I dig about the MM Paradigm Series:
1. "Indiglo" type backlight
2. pump battery life & reservoir capacity on "screen saver"
3. Small, sturdy casing
4. Newer models allow for CGMS/TGMS system integration
These are just a few things to consider when making such a decision. Also, I'm getting ready to post a thread in this forum (Pumping Insulin - per friends' requests), and will "sticky" it for those who seek more detailed pros/cons of the various pumps & companies. :) Hope all this will help! Please continue to keep us posted & feel free to ask any questions you might have. Welcome aboard!
Just to confuse things more - what about the Deltec Cozmo?
I suggest you check them out too.
We had all 3 pumps to play with and decided to go with the
Cozmo.
In any case, from what we saw they are basically doing the
same thing with different bells and whistles.
Good luck with whichever one you choose.

I think you can't fully go bye people's past. I can name people that have gone through 10-15 MM pumps. Yet I know people that are still on their original Animas pump. I also know the two vice versa.
I have had my 1200 for just under 2 years now, and I've only had it out twice. Once was because of a know screen issue, which they gladly replaced no questions asked. The second one was my fault in tightening the battery cap to tight and I cracked the case. They didn't make me pay anything for that and they sent a new one out the same day.

Those were the two that I narrowed it down to. I had both of them for a weekend and just liked the programming and user friendliness of the MM better. I went with a 522, I don't use much insulin. Both are very good pumps I don't think you will go wrong with either one.

I'm in the same boat. I need to make the official decision soon and any info would be great. This is my first official post due to the fact that I'm not pumping yet, but all of you have already been incredibly helpful.
Thanks!

I'll jump in: no surprise to anyone here - I love my Animas! ;) It may not be the perfect pump for everyone, but it is the best one currently available for me. For other people with different priorities and needs, a better choice may be the Cosmo or the Minimed Paradigm.
My number one reason was that Animas 1250 has the smallest increments for setting basal rates currently available, which makes a noticeable difference for those who are sensitive to small changes in dosage. A strong second factor was the standard luer-lock for the infusion sets, allowing me the widest possible choice - in case I didn't like the ones provided by the pump manufacturer or started having problems with them down the road. There are other things I like about my Animas, as well as a few things I don't (discussed in some of the threads linked below).
There have been some good discussions here in the past on the various pumps, which I greatly appreciated as they were extremely helpful when I was trying to think through the various factors and decide on a pump:

You can find more posts about the various pumps (and their pros and cons) by using the Search option and entering Animas, Cosmo or Minimed (or Paradigm). Here's a few to get you started from early this year (Jan/Feb):

Good luck with choosing the best pump for you! :)

I'm happy Dewey finally made that thread on pump pros/cons. I wanted her to make it since most of the info is hers and she can add to it as needed.

Thanks, Jedi. :) Sorry it took this turtle :turtle: so long, but I wanted to try to be fair to All the companies & get the most updated info. available. Was able to do so with some of the past discussions here, along with help from some fellow members/friends! Thanks, everyone!
Please feel free to provide your lists on the pros & cons of the pumps you've used. :)

I basically HAVE TO use the Animas. I am so insulin sensitive it's not funny. With other pumps it would be a choice between running too high or too low.
The Animas has the finest degree of basal and bolus settings. Though honestly, I wish it allowed even finer controls.
Luckily, I don't use all that much insulin, either.
Don't sweat the waterproof thing. So long as you've screwed things together properly, swimming is a non-issue. I take my Animas 1250 into the shower with me every day (as all my boluses are square wave). I put it on my Medic Alert necklace. The first time I went swimming with it on it felt a bit odd doing it.
