Just out of curiosity. How does everyone count Glyceimc Index of foods in their insulin doses?
Or do we just stay away from those high-GI foods?
And do you think it is as important as counting carbs? I know it's important to us, and it works for us. Just wanted to hear whether other people use it this way or another. :)

I usually stay away from the high GI foods. I usually eat pumpernickel bread instead of white/wheat. And I found out that frosted flakes has a pretty low GI for cereal.

I actually find that high GI carbs are easier to figure out with insulin doses. Too low on the GI and the carbs take too long to enter the system and if my blood glucose level is on the low side before eating and taking my bolus, i will likely go low before the food kicks in. For any foods lower on the GI, i have to take an extended or dual wave bolus. Thank goodness for insulin pumps!

All that said, i really like whole grain, filled with fiber food. Yum.

For me, the number of carbs is the most important. The position on the glycemic index just indicates how long i need to extend my bolus. But the amount of insulin stays the same. But everyone is different.
