I have some of the symptoms that are described by the companies marketing these digestive/colon cleansing products and wonder if they do really help to 'cleanse' your body as they say.

Anyone try these products and have positive results?

Uhm...no. Why do you feel the need to cleanse your GI tract?

All it is is hype. Your GI tract doesn't need cleansing, nor is it even a good idea to cleanse it (IF those things did "cleanse" it), because you need your normal flora there.

Actually, when my aunt was going through all the homeopathic and holistic stuff, there was a cholemic cleanout that I did...fasting for a week...w/ an organic veggie broth(beet being one of the main ingredients, but you didn't even taste it)...a bunch of vitamins, this thickening stuff that you'd mix w/ apple juice(I used fresh made apple juice)...and the board, which was a cleanout twice a day.
I lost 10+ lbs and never felt better ...energy and totally healthy...it also helped clear up the gp...

I can get the names of all the vitamins and stuff again...
My mom takes these pills she gets from one of her friends in Canada, and those work really well as well.

I guess a better question is, what symptoms specifically are you hoping this will help for ou?

for all you younger Diabetics. It's a funny topic when you're still in good health, but there are things that just don't work as well as you grow with Diabetes. I can tell you, having had diabetes for almost 23 years now, my nerves don't work as well as they used to. that also includes the nerves that run the stomache and the rest of my GI tract.

Sometimes the body needs a little bit of help...

You wanna flush? Try this;
Fleet - Phospho-Soda, Ginger Lemon - 1.5 fl oz (http://www.drugstore.com/popups/largerphoto/default.asp?pid=15100&catid=172&size=300&trx=29888&trxp1=15100&trxp2=1)

Drink half the bottle with with 10 oz. of water. A half hour later, place a half gallon or two liters of drinking water in reach of the throne along with the rest of what is left of the bottle of fleet, and at least one extra roll of TP. At one hour after taking the first dose sit on the throne, if your not already there, and drink the rest of the fleet and ten oz. of water or as much as you can drink. Keep drinking as much water as you can stand for the next 6 hours. You should be flushed in 6 to 8 hours after first dose.
CAUTION WILL CAUSE SEVERE DEHYDRATION IF YOU DO NOT DRINK ENOUGH WATER!

Know what your thinking and this is not a Ginger-Lemon flavored Supository. :hmmmm: The instructions I gave are not the one on the bottle. With some artistic license the instructions I gave are what I was given to prep for a colonoscopy, and I have had three of them. It only costs like $4 dollars and you will have no doubt you have been flushed.

Hi. I don't know if this counts but as I have mentioned before in some of my posts, my grandma is taking a food supplement (made from bitter melon), as far as i am concerned, it is doing wonders for her. The first two weeks of her taking it sends her to the toilet more. But after that 2 weeks she feels better and her blood sugar does not shoot up that much unlike before. So I guess it works for my grandma. :)

Harold,
What are the most common purposes of having a Colonoscopy? Is it because the doc suspects cancer or bleeding in the GI tract or the colon?

I read that is to be done every 10 years after the age of 50.

thank you

Mostly for polyps. Polyps may turn cancerous or grow untill they block your colon. While there they also look for other problems like thin walls or ulcers that may lead to bleeding. How often depends on your family history, if they find any and how many. At one point my father was having it done every three months.

Kemist, I've had colonoscopy pix done - let me assure you there is NOT a bunch of miscellaneous trash collected in the colon. No seven year old bubblegum, beef gristle, congealed Coca-Cola, fingernail pieces, etc. The colon is in fact a moving, mucosal tissue, and is extremely good at keeping things from sticking to it.

A lot of these therapies are combined with radical diet changes (like lots of fiber and veggies, reduced heavy-fatted meals, etc. - the radical results people claim are generally because they are enjoying improved nutrition and digestion, not because of colon-flushing.

The previous poster's note about microbes in the gut is also very good - the bacteria is there for a reason, no need to kill it off with chemicals !
