Okies, I always shave, but want to start waxing my legs instead, but I have heard some horror stories about waxing and diabetes, ending in huge skin infections and stuff.
I have great circulation, so I was wondering if this is somethin I should be worried about or not?!

I don't know about other folks, but I have never gotten an infection.
Unless you got careless and cut your hand on the chrome or some of the sheet metal, I'm not sure how just waxing a car could give you an infection? I have never taken my car into someone else to get waxed, I always do it myself. Why would you "shave" a car anyway?

Waxing is easy to have done....the only difference, of course, is price & a little extra pain, lol.
While waxing is helpful to get the hair to come back less thick & less often (cause it pulls the hairs out by the roots), it does in fact cost a little more. Other than that, there should be no worries about doing it, unless you have super-sensitive skin. I say  to waxing.

Waxing! Why would anyone want to wax anything? All that does is make it shine and stand out. The only time you need that is in garrison and right now people we are at war. Keep those cars covered in mud. They are easier to hide that way. Do you hear me? No wax.

I think they probably warn you about doing it was a diabetic for the same reason as all the foot spa health warnings and some other medications as a diabetic (wart removers ;))
If you dont have any nerve damage etc then it should be fine.
I used my wart removed and im not dead yet... mind you, neither is the stupid wart!!

Here's an example of a shaved car:

Note the door handles are removed (shaved), no attenae (shaved), no emblems (shaved). It's a popular trend in cars. I can't believe a man with his finger on the pulse of manliness wonders why one would shave their car?

... A few places will actually refuse to wax you if you happen to mention you have diabetes before the actual waxing. Thought I'd let you know.

I can't believe how many people have kept this thread going (including me), lol. Just try it and see 2high, if you get an infection, get some antibiotics. You've put more effort into worrying about infection than you have about the excrutiating pain it is going to cause you. Now that's crazy (oops sorry wrong thread)

Well I used to wax pre-diabetes and was ok... then coz I was warned not to I didn't for ages after. Tried it once (at home so prob not the best) and my skin went all red and sore and took a good while to feel better.... so I haven't treid since.
Are you gonna get it done proffesionally or at home? Can you let me know how you get on?

so i see that this thread is a couple of years old, but thought i'd ask my question here instead of starting a new one ;). has anyone had a cold wax before, or low temp. one? i've never tried waxing at home or prof. i'd really like to start for my legs are so long i swear it takes over an hr. to shave. and although i'm not a "hairy" chik, i hate the pricklies, lol. a lot of salons refuse diabetics because they are taught in training it's not worth the risk, or at best you need to have a dr. note saying it is ok. i read in some forums of cosmetologists stating that they refuse type 1 one, even w/ a dr. note. which is what i am. they say the insulin is the problem and that type 1's get hypos from the pain?!?!?!?!?! huh??? can anyone elaborate on that notion??? thansk a million!!!!! ;)

Jaime,
And to answer your questions better . . . I have only had warm waxing, and it's not painful to me at all! Just stings a bit, but the warm wax feels wonderful. No hypos either! It's amazing what some people think about us. I don't think we are as different (sensitive) as many try to make us out to be.

Be sure to go to a clean, reputable salon...I avoid the "storefront in shopping center" type of places...although I'm sure some of those are ok....I generally go where I know the people and usually it's where I have my hair styled...
I can remember when there were warnings against wearing pantyhose, girdles, using lotion on toes, etc...
Hey, I'm sure there are a few men who need a little waxing...so okay for all to read!!!

i use Persian Cold Wax that you apply with a popsicle stick type thing
i buy the 'full kit' until i have a supply of the cloth strips that you use to remove the wax/hair, then i can buy the wax only kit after that (save your popsicle sticks too, you'll need them when you least expect it)
when i've had the shower after waxing the legs, i then rub in polysporin cream into my legs :)
