I test my bg at 6pm. I'm at 103.
I exercise - jog a couple of miles.
I eat nothing. I drink nothing.
Just to see whats going on, I test just before dinner - 8pm - and I'm at 129.
I'd have expected it to have gone down - what am I missing here.
I'm confused...

I can't figure it out Alana, happens to me all the time. I can eat little or nothing for 6 hours, take all my medications and injections, and still go up.

If I don't eat something before exercise, mine goes up to. It was explained to me that the liver kicks in and starts making glucose...I was told that a small snack before hand would remedy the situation, and I've found that it does.
I would take a guess and assume that if you don't eat long enough, the same thing would happen.

That's not too bad of a change. When you exercise, your body releases stress hormones (part of the "running away from the tiger") that cause a rise in the blood glucose.

Also, if your body senses no food, it's likely to start breaking down fat. You get that energy from that fat breakdown.

As a Type 1, when I would go jogging, sometimes I'd have to give myself a unit of insulin to fight off that increase (starting at 100 mg/dl, and after jogging just one mile, I'd be at 170 mg/dl, before I'd dip back down again).
