different meter readings

I've got three meters and decided to see how close the readings were to each other and could not believe the different readings I got. I took the readings all at the same time and from the same finger. I did this several times between yesterday and today and came up with drastically different numbers. Example: 2 hours after lunch today,
One Touch Ultra-107
accu-check Compact Plus-123
Accu-Check Aviva-143
Has anyone else done this and come up with such a discrepancy in numbers? I went to a diabetics class this afternoon and was told this is normal and to use the meter that reads the lowest and add 15% because none of them are very accurate. I've been using the One Touch since I was diagnosed a month ago and thought I was doing real good since my numbers have gradually been dropping to under 140 two hours after eating and under 110 in the morning. Now I'm not sure what to believe.:hmmmm:

I was using the Accu-Check Compact Plus along with the Freestyle flash and the One Touch u2 and mini and found the lifescan products to be the best.


I changed over to the compact plus about 3 months ago. After doing that I started going Hypo much more than ever before. Animas and other officers have sent me my way some free U2 meters, thus I decided to start checking them with the compact plus. Found the Accu check meter ran higher in about 99% of the time. Some times much higher that the lifescan, and high enough that I would have went hypo if I corrected with the numbers on the compact. I have now put my accu check meters away never to use them again.

As you see, I tested a few meters and the results were surprising in some cases. I still use the Ultrasmart as I feel to me that's the most accurate to how I feel. Some say the same with the Flash. I think you have to use whatever makes you comfortable and tells you how you feel.

My meters vary drastically from each other. Last nite I got a "LO" reading on my meter - no idea how low that actaully is. Loo lazy to read manual - but under 1.1 i think. So i checked with other meter - 5.4 ... lol ... i treated as hypo anyway .. and then copped another hypo during the night.

But in other circumstance - i have tested the difference between my meters ands there usually a 2 mmol/l diff (36 in your language i think)

I'm switching back to my One Touch from the BD Paradigm Link at the end of the week when my new strips arrive for the same reason.......the BD meter always gives me a higher reading by 20 to 30 points.

We did this with my sisters. She has an Ascensia Breeze, and a Countour and I have a OneTouch Ultra. The Breeze was WAY high, the Contour, still a bit higher, but around 10 points of my Ultra! I think she got herself a FreeStyle too, that or it was the Walgreens brand. I don't remember what that one was compared to the Contour. She won't use the Breeze. It's basically a peice of ****!

My personal opinion is the OneTouch is the most accurate. I've also read that elsewhere numerous times, and the reason I chose it.

I use the OneTouch UltraSmart for all my testing and I never add 15% to the value...

It's a great report Kevin, but without a control [lab results] it's not telling us much other then there are variances between meters. I guess that's the point though.

With my freestyle flash twice the number on the meter matched the lab results. Once, a third time, it was off by 3 mg/dl.

I've used a Onetouch meter since I got a meter because that's the first meter I remember seeing used in the hospital. My endo trusts them, he uses them in his office, my hospital uses them, so I use them. I like the software too.
