Sorry to vent, and usually I try to keep my cool, but I've had about enough Drama for one month (or maybe for a lifetime!!)!!

Apparently, according to Carwy's drama queen sister, his mom is doing poorly. She's having eye troubles again (she's already about blind in her left eye), and has been having issues breathing. They think there may be something wrong with her heart.....

However, I can tell you exactly Why ALL that's happening! How can people Honestly expect to run at 300+ almost ALL the time & Never have ANY complications!? When I go visit, she gets a little jealous of me, :( cause when I test, the highest I usually go is 180 (sometimes 200s, depending on set issues or what I've eaten). She spends the better part of the time At or Over 300! Yet the family (especially her daughter, who happens to be a nurse :****mate: - remind me Never to be in need of Her care!) expects her to be fine!!! Are we all running around with blinders on!?

Now of course, the family's scrambling to try to help her....the ONLY thing that may actually help is if she takes some da** control! However, the damage may be done & it may be too late. This has been going on for years. There's been discussion about her going on the pump, but she's somewhat afraid of it (though I tried to help her with it) & didn't have someone who'd take the initiative to go to the 2 week training sessions with her in another town. One of her sons lives with her rent free in a home that's paid for, why in the he** couldn't HE go!?

Guess what I'm trying to say in a nut shell is take some da** control of Your Diabetes before it takes control of You!!! There is absolutely NO reason one shouldn't try to care for him or herself with such a disease. It's much more maintainable than Cancer, for God's Sakes!

Dew, I agree with you 10,000%. Running 300 and doing nothing about it is slow suicide. I lost my best neighbor to DM complications last year due to his poor control from a cavalier attitude towards sky-high bg's.

Holy **** Dewey!

Phrankly, that's just plain ignorant on the Mothers part and virtually negligent on the part of the Nurse sister.

When I got dianosed at 210 US my doctor told me I was a, "walking time bomb" but we were lucky and caught it very early.

If she's running that high I'd simply say something along the lines of, "I've said my piece regarding controlling your BS and neither of you seem to listen, so spare me the whining when you get the reprecussions....you've obviously chosen to actively ruin your health, and I guess that's one thing we can agree on - you're succeeding. What kind of flowers do you want at your funeral?"

Sheesh...I've gotten bummed out by the T2 stuff, but either it controls me or the other way around.

My a1c at dianosis was 11.7, my last one was 5.0....you can control the Beetus as you've stated!

Dewey - next time have a strategic tantrum and just freak out over them all, if they're not going to control it, then shut the F**K up about it...

I think what really is upsetting about this situation is that she watched one of her friends die of complications cause that person would eat & drink whatever she wanted, and didn't maintain control. Her friend passed too early, cause she didn't even Try, cheating her family out of a mom & wife and cheating her friends as well. Not for anything, but how selfish is that!?

Still, she doesn't do a thing to try to gain control. She's used different insulins (such as Symlin) to help, but hasn't had luck. She's been approached about pump therapy, but seems afraid of it. I tried to show her there's nothing to be afraid of (he**, she should be More afraid of the alternatives!), and even offered to go with her across the state to attend a 2 week training. She apparently opted not to do it. :( She could at least try. I mean, after all, her son went through a he** of alot worse with Cancer treatments and a stem cell transplant, cause he has a desire to live! She ought to take the same initiative if she wants to be here for the future!

Yes, indeed, it is.

That would be a good way to scare someone straight. He**, I just might try it.

LOL @ controlling "the Beetus!" That made me smile! :D

On the "shutting the f up part," that's just it...I have a very hard time sitting idly by while watching a train wreck that's so preventable. However, I'm not so sure I can lead this horse to water, as the case may be...

That sort of attitude blows me away. She is afraid of pumping MORE than dying soon? Funny how odd some people's priorities are, huh? (and also their misconceptions)

Dewey,

I had a similar experience with my younger brother who died at 32 from cancer because he wouldn't take responsibility for doing what everyone (doctors, family etc) told him needed to be done. He knew at least 2 years earlier what he should do. He just refused to follow the diet, medication etc prescribed. He could have either beat it or lived much longer if he had tried. As normally happens, he left a wide trail of destruction for those left behind.

When people ask, I say he died from a bad attitude.

That's ferkin' brilliant!

I'm filing that away for future use....

Phrankly Dewey - I think that sums it all up in one succinct sentence!

You are soo right here dewey...how can someone not take responsibility for their own actions. It is horrible to think that people just let themselves go like that. But i am glad you are venting, it will make you feel much better in the long run

Dewey,

That sucks but you can only lead a horse to water. My husband's mother didn't take care of herself either and she passed away this summer (she had non-diabetes related problems). I used to give her a hard time but her attitude was 'you have to die sometime.' What a dumba**.

Sort of on topic: How long do you all think it would take to get complications when running high bgs (like >250) on a regular basis? My bgs were very high after I had my kids and I noticed some problems like memory loss, tiredness, depression, etc. but those symptoms have since gone away. Boy, I wish someone had told me then that lantus would make it easier to manage bgs when you didn't know when your next meal would be!

Dewey, I feel your pain. My dad is very much the same way. He's a type 2, will not change from NPH, only tests his bg twice a day, won't see his doctor until he's forced to by my mom (he has a really bad rash that looked like cellulitis to me), hates his endo because he wouldn't put him on Byetta and gave him no reason for it, etc.

I've told you all awhile ago about my uncle who had a certain part of his body amputated due to gangrene caused by his diabetes non-control... You'd think that with having seen his brother lose *that* that my dad would *want* to take control... it obviously hasn't happened yet. I told my dad on the phone the other night that if he didn't start taking control and better care of himself, that he'd better not expect me to be sympathetic when he starts losing parts, getting sicker, etc.

I just don't understand people who won't take care of themselves when it's just so easy to... Yep, you guessed it, I'm a royal b**ch!

awwwww Dew *hugz* I feel ya girl! Not the same situation exactly, but I've been in the situation of trying to explain to people the WHY's of things, and they REFUSE to listen! Irks me to know end!

You live it, you know it ... all you can do is tell them what you know, do your best to educate them ... then it's up to them to take care of business! I know it hurts to have to just sit back and watch, but you can't force anyone to do something they don't want to, or are unwilling to do!

As for the sister nurse, SHE is the exact reason I'm loosing all faith in the medical community, and what spirited my comment the other night about people getting their medical degrees from a $9.95 course from WalMart! I find it REALLY sad that patients know more, and have to educate their doctors and others that are SUPPOSED to know these things! That's why THEY have those lil letters behind their names! UGH

So sorry for what you're going through! I guess we've all seen it at one time or another. As for relatives in the medical field, I'd rather be hung that deal with that! I have an aunt who is a RN, who stood by whilst my grandmother was slowly dying of cancer telling us all that is was all in her head, she was just fine!
My advise would be to pray for them, they need it! And don't forget yourself, too, so you can deal with having to see things that are so painful to watch.
