My DR gave me 2 vials to try. So as soon as I get done with what I have in my pump now, I am going to start pumping it.
Any comments from people who are pumping with it now that you have found out ?

I've heard mixed opinions on it just like Humalog and Novolog. I have not used it myself but some say they use less and it works faster, yet lasts longer. Some say just the opposite. So, it'll be a trial and error for how it works for you. Good luck with it.

Well I went from Humalog to Novolog due to my co-pay. It was $5 cheaper to do Novolog. To make a long story short, I went back to Humalog for a month and found I have better control with the Humalog. My Dr told me about this insulin when I went to Novolog. It is the same price as Humalog on my insurance, so I figured I would give it a shot because it is new and to see what it can do for me, if anything.
No real reason.
Please let me know how you like it.
I will keep you posted

My endo handed me two vials of Apidra about 3 months ago. I found it to be slightly faster acting and cleared out slightly faster. I had to make fewer two hour corrections and my 2 week average BGs went down 15-20 md/dl. I also had reduced my nightime basal rate and was considering reducing another when my Apidra supply was finished.
Both Novolog and Humalog are on my insurance's primary drug list while unfortunately Apidra is third tier, so while it's available to me, it's much more expensive. The improvement for me was measurable but not enough to justify the higher cost. I will switch if Apidra ever gets moved up to primary status.
Hope it works well for you and it's primary for you if there's an improvement.

I don't pump with Apidra, I am on MDI with Apidra but I pretty much have the same experience as David. It definitely kicks in faster for me and is cleared a bit faster too, but I haven't really had to correct. I can see my bg levels start to creep up a bit but not enough to do anything about it. I did have to decrease my doses to begin with, but I've adapted now and am back to the same doses I was using while on Novolog. I do have to be a bit more careful with it... in the beginning (about 6 weeks ago), I was going hypo in the middle of dinner. I'm still trying to work out better timing with food, but so far I think I like it. All of my averages (7-day, 30-day, 90-day) at my last appt, 6 weeks ago, were in the 150s. Now my 7-day average is 126, my 30-day is 135 and my 90-day is 148, so I can definitely see an improvement and I hope it continues.
Unfortunately, it's still a rather new drug so while Apidra is covered under my insurance, it's not preferred. I believe vials would cost the same as my Novolog pen cartridges, but it would cost a ton more to buy the Apidra pen cartridges. When my free trial vials run out I'm not sure what I will do. Will have to see how much better my control really is and whether I can bother going back to vials and syringes... so many syringes!! :dontknow:
I hope you see good results!

I'm also anxious to give Apidra a try in my pump. My next endo appt is in a month, so I will try to get some free samples then...

I've been pumping Apidra since April. I went from using 50-60 units of Humalog a day to about 35 units of Apidra. My A1c has not worsened or improved, but my post prandials seem better. I lost 5 lbs initially i think due to taking less insulin. However, due to the fact that I'm a pig, I have gained 3 lbs back!!! It costs the same for me as humalog. I have been pleased with it.
What do you think so far?
