I have been having problems with fissures on the soles of my feet for about two years now. Things will be fine and within a few hours I'll notice pain and find one. I spoke with a podiatrist about it this morning and he said it is very common among diabetics. Does anyone else have this problem?

Could it be that you're having trouble with Very dry skin?
I have that problem because I sit cross-legged in my chair and the fabric causes excessive calluses on one foot. I just put vaseline on it and wear just a sock on that foot during the day (weekends). It clears up in a day or two.

I too have experienced this, Lg. In fact, I have one on the left side of my left heel as we speak. I often attribute mine to dry skin, but I also seemed to get this one after walking on a rocky surface with shoes that were not appropriate for it.
I've found things like "Burt's Bees," "Origins," or other creams to work wonders. Hope this helps, and hope your feet feel better soon! :)

I'm not exactly sure what fissures are, but I hope that they heal up quickly for you!

I've always had dry skin on my feet. If I don't keep them moisturized, they will crack.(I know TMI).
I found Hemp Cream to be the best moisturizer for me.

You need a good emollient cream! And use it every day. No need for those fancy expensive creams. Simply get a tube that says emollient. You might not like the feel of the cream so get a small tube, just in case. Some creams feel greasy on the feet and it's really uncomfortable.
I got myself a foot scrub. Again, no need to pay lots of money for fancy pricey stuff because they're all the same anyway! Peppermint is the one to go for. After a bath, and with a pumice rock, I VERY GENTLY scrub all the dry areas of my feet. I dry my feet and then I rub in the emollient cream. Summer and sandals are my worst enemies so I tend to do that routine each and every day during summer time. I find it's also a good time to check my feet closely as I often walk barefoot outside. I know! We're not supposed to do that!
If your feet need cream every day well so be it! It pays off to take care of your feet... because very dry feet hurt SO MUCH!!!!

I thought that I just had cracked heals, which I'm assuming what you are describing as fissures are the same thing...
Anyhow, saw my podiatrist the other day and found out that it's athlete's foot. I had no idea that athlete's foot causes those. So, he said to put any brand of athlete's foot spray between my toes, get some lotremin cream and rub that all over my feet after showering (but not between the toes), and put Gold Bond powder in my socks.
So far, it's working wonders!

I have this problem on the balls of three fingers - the fissures can go quite deep and are very painful. Emoluments did not do any good so the doctor prescribed hydrocortisone cream (1%). When I put a dab of this on the fissures and then wrap a piece of Micropore round to force the fissure together, it will heal - until a new one develops.
