I got a letter today from my pharmacy saying that Lifescan One Touch Ultra Smart meters have a recall due to battery issues.

If the serial number on the back of your One Touch starts the TC,TD, TF or TG call LifeScan and they will determine if you meter needs replacing

I've gotten about half a dozen user's manuals for the Ultra meter from LifeScan and I don't even have one of those meters. I do have an UltraSmart but I've heard nothing from them about a recall.

I'm not sure if its a newer one or not. I got the letter from the pharmacy that I purchased it from. Mine is about six months old and the first two letters of my serial number are TL. I also have one I just got a few weeks ago with a serial number that starte with a V I think, i'm not sure ;) I'd have to look at it again.

Here is a link to Lifescans website with info about the recall

Whew, just checked mine and its not one that is affected. Mine is relatively new, though its not THAT much better than my old profile even though it can do all this new stuff.

I saw this thread and was gonna check mine but when I went to check the mail, I had a package from Lifescan with new batteries in it. I have my US registered with them so I guess that's why I received the batteries.

I called today and I had a meter with a TC code. They asked if my batteries were corroding. I knew that was the key to getting a "good" meter so I stated that I may have seen some corrosion. New meter is being fed-exed tomorrow and they want me to send my current meter back. I'd personally prefer not to take any chances.
