Hiya

All

Firstly i would like to apoligies if im putting this in the wrong area of the forum :dong:

Secondly i found this whilst searching the net which might be useful if youve got a sweet tooth .

An "Antidiabetic" Food

Second is the recent classification of sweet potato as an "antidiabetic" food. Sweet potato has been given this label because of some recent animal studies in which sweet potato helped stabilize blood sugar levels and lowered insulin resistance. (Insulin resistance is a problem caused when cells don't respond to the hormone insulin, which is supposed to act as a key and unlock the cell in order to allow sugar to pass from the blood into the cell). Some of its blood sugar regulatory properties may come from the fact that sweet potatoes are concentrated in carotenoids. Research has suggested that physiological levels, as well as dietary intake, of carotenoids may be inversely associated with insulin resistance and high blood sugar levels. Once again, more research is needed in this area, but the stage is set for sweet potato to show unique healing properties in the area of blood sugar control.

Hmmmmm....SWEET potato's and diabetes....is this a trick question?

Kinda like when I thought I was being good and had French Canadian Ham and Pea soup...BS went through the roof, until my nurse wife looked at me and said, "Duh...peas are extremely high in sugar!"

Sweet Potatoes are not a problem for me at all. In fact, the last time I ate one I gave myself the appropriate amount of insulin to cover the carbs and had to drink some oj to bring up my bg. Perhaps they do have some positive affect on insulin resistance. Good news for me.

If this is true, it would make me very happy. I love the things, I like to bake a whole one, spray with margerine and use a little salt and pepper. I thought I had to give them up, and have not had any since last Thanksgiving. I will do some testing and see how it works.
I did find avocados reduce my BS. After eating one and having my BS drop about 50 points in 30 minutes, I tested several times, and it always reduced my BS. It's a shame they do not keep better, so I can keep them around. But you can keep a sweet potato for a long time, so here's hoping.

i like sweet potatos... I think people take the name too literally. It's all natural sugar, like SWEETcorn, and pretty much any fruit right?

I just count for it, i eat sweet potato's regularly and dont notice any different really in BG from a normal spud to a sweet spud.
