Hello there? Can anyone help me please on how do I use Cinnamon? Can I use the sprinkle type from a bottle? A friend of mine was saying he did not know about that effect and he learned of it on actual experience. He told me one day when he was drinking tea he tried sprinkling cinnamon over it and downed the whole cup, after a while he was trembling, someone told him, I don't know who that he experienced hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. If Cinnamon has this effect can I use it to help lower down my grandma's blood sugar? If this is true, how much should i use every cup of any beverage. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Cinnamon was talked about on the forum, you can find the thread here: http://www.diabetesforums.com/type-2/13877-cinnamon.html
Other than that I don't really know. I hope this helps :)

I use alot of Cinnamon. In fact I seem to crave it. dunno why tho. Anyway, I mix it with a sweetner and keep it on my bar. I sprinkle it on my walnuts to snack on from time to time. It does seem to lower my bs a tad but I have never had a hypo using it. I do know they say it helps to lower bs but that's not the reason I use it so much. I just LOVE the taste. I use it on lots of my foods. It isn't harmful that I know of. And yes I use the regular cinnamon ( I get the BIG bottle from Sam's so I don't run out!)

One study, reported in a long ago thread, that showed some benefit had them using 1 tsp in a cup of hot tea.

I have read that have some benefits, the Alternative Medicine doctors recommed it, but the traditional doctors don't say one way or the other.
I have tried it. with no big sinificant effect. I guess I have to eat a lot and for a long period of time, maybe months.

They cell capsules of 500mg or more at Walmart & at the health stores, is very cheap, like $3 a bottle.

Read more about it, & always tell your health care team if you take any supplements, because some supplements have reactions with prescription meds.:hmmmm2: :santaclau

I experimented with adding about half a teaspoon of cinnamon to 2 or 3 cups of coffee a day. It doesn't dissolve (it's actually tree bark!) so you get little woody bits... once you get used to it it's no big deal and the coffee tastes great!

Not sure if I noticed any difference in my BGs but I sure enjoyed my coffee :D

I got out of that habit, but will have to try it again and watch my BGs for a few days :)

After using it in my coffee for over two years, I have noticed that my basal rate on the pump has gone down some. Not conclusive, but it is a cheap supplement and it sort of grows on you.
Have been using wherever it works, on toast in the mornings, on apples, but not on my peanut butter sandwiches.:lollypop:

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions. Will try to add it to my grandma's beverage or snacks; she might get to like it too. Bratty1, thanks for the link! Emm, if you get into the habit again, please let me know if it works. All replies are encouraging. Thank you all, I have little knowledge of the diabetes condition and i'm just starting to learn.

all appreciated. Thanks again!

By the way, is there such thing as over using cinnamon? Or I just use it as much as I want?

I used that for 6 months and it had little effect on my blood sugars.

As I understand it, it is supposed to specifically address muscle tissue sensitivity to blood glucose for type II's. It should allow muscle tissue to better use the blood sugar available instead of demanding more sugar than needed. For that specific purpose, it works well as this is my main problem and have shown some improvement in that respect.
