Here's an http://www.cvs.com/CVSApp/cvs/gateway/health_ftpi?fpaid=27407 (EXCELLENT ARTICLE) that I found on diabetic skin care.

Since I was dx'd with T2, I've noticed my skin has become very dry. I use a body cream by Diabetes Choice that works well, a new handcream by Gold Bond, and a footcream DiabetiDerm Foot Rejuvenating Cream.

My husband is also T2 and he has exema. The skin on his thumbs is always cracking. He's tried a new product by NextCare that you can paint on the cracks to protect them.

Any tricks of the trade you can share on treating extremely dry skin and/or skin cracking?

I have had dry skin problems for quite some time. I never placed the problem on it being due to Diabetes for a very long time. But for the past 5 or so years I have been seeing a Dermatologist that has prescribed to me LacHydren Cream. What amazes me is I can spread this on me over cuts and other skin problems and te irritation, cut or bruise will be completely healed in 2 days. That is amazing for me considering that I can take up to months to heal from a cut. I gave some of this to my sister-in-law and she used it on a patch of poison Ivy. It had completely healed over night. So I like this particular product for skin care. It also helps with the dry skin problems too.

Hey I have some of that stuff. I put it on my feet! Looks like I need to get it back out and experiment.

Hello!

One thing that is very good for the skin... is drinking plenty of water! 6 to 8 glasses a day, if you can manage that much. Over heated houses are partly to blame for dry skin...

A relaxing bath in the evening with a dash of almond oil. Wonderful! And easier to rub in your foot cream afterwards.

Soap usually dries the skin. I prefer to use a body wash with lotion in it. Any brand. No matter what they advertize, they're all the same. Same goes for body cream. Unless someone offers you any cream or lotion from Lancôme. Expen$ive but rea££y excellent.

For feet I have an excellent cream that I bought in Germany. It's mainly made of herbs. My guess is that any good health store worthy of that name could sell you something similar.

Ever noticed this? Dry lips : the more you use lipbalm, the more your lips seem to be dry and the more you put lipbalm??!? Read somewhere most companies do that on purpose to make you buy more lipbalm. Ack! A little Vaseline does the trick. ;)

'Teatree' is a wonderful natural antiseptic. Good for the skin too! My daughter uses it for her teenage skin... clears up the spots in no time.

I have been dealing with eczema since my daughter was born (over 5 yrs ago) and the doc prescribed Elocon for me. It works good, but the tubes are small and it seems to be getting more widespread...I hear there is a pill for eczema now? Has anyone tried it? And marie, yes the dry weather does seem to aggrevate it a LOT!!! Buying a cool mist humidifier helped me a bit....

Lot's of physicians treat eczema with hydrocortisone, which is a steroid and will actually thin the skin. But it works great, when used sparingly and only on the affected areas.

I use water-based creams on my eczema; Glaxal Base is a good one and comes in a huge tub from the pharmacy for about $10. Derma-base is my personal fave because the properties are much the same as Vaseline, except it is water-based rather than petroleum.

Bathing in hot water will dry the skin out, as well as using scented lotions or bath products. These can cause skin irritation as well.

Jen, I've never even heard of this pill! Do you have a link for it?

How can this be!!??

A new book and a hot bath to lay in and read are as close to heaven as one can get.:p
