metformin vs. metformin hcl

I take 500mg. metformin hcl daily at dinner (with 2.5mg. glyburide). Is this the long acting metformin? If so, over how long a period (in hours) does it act? (I read in another post that the regular metformin acts over 8 hours.)

They're the same thing. Some companies/pharmacies just choose to list the hydrochloride (HCl) in the name is all. Long Acting, or "extended release" would have ER at the end "Metformin ER".
