Well I drew up 5cc and put it in. Waited 15 minutes and started to eat my English Pot Roast Dinner.
Normal size plate. I did only feel the slightest of some queasy feeling in my stomach and could hardly and did not eat everything.
Had some gastric air. This stuff makes you feel like your full and my BG rose about sixteen points if you will.
I imagine if If I would have put any more I would have had some trouble with this.
Will try it today. Will take about 7.5 cc to see if nausea comes.
From what it felt like I could not handle a full ten units of this stuff with out working up to it.
There was a bit of unbalanced dizzy feeling and a feeling of fullness and some gastric air with of course a 16 point increase in BG over 2 hours. Could not finish the whole plate. Definitely did not want seconds.
Pot Roast Dinner included. Steamed Broccoli, Pot Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes, Gravey.
Like to hear about others experiences.
Wasn't sure if I should have posted this in the one Symlin Post started by Cyborg.

When I started on Symlin, I started at 2.5 and gradually worked up to 20 increasing by 2.5 units. This took about week and half. But then I started having too many lows and endo backed me off to 10. I now am still taking 10. Has the endo advised you how much to take and how often to increase it?

I had the same problem, started at 10 units, now at 18. For me, the longer I have taken it, the easier the nausea gets. It was terrible in the beginning, but as I got used to it, and took the dose up bit by bit, it got easier. Now it's just a slight feeling of nausea. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

Since you are a pumper, you can do a combo bolus when taking your Symlin. This will help prevent you from going low and help with any post meal bg spikes.

Ok Symlin has made me feel full all the time Today I took 7.5cc and I'm not eating alot.
awoke this morning feeling like I was not hungry. My wife asked if I wanted eggs said no I wasn't hungry.
I finally had the urge to eat at 3pm took my Symlin 7.5cc waited 15 minutes barely able to finish my meal. Full
I've been running high for three days feeling like I have a soar throat stuffed nose. Woke up with a 184BG.
2:26 150BG Then 5 units from my pump as a bolus and a combo over 3 hours of 10.50units and 7.5cc Symlin BG at Time of 2:50pm 150BG 2 Hours later 4:56 161BG.
I guess this stuff does what it says it does. No Nausea yet, feel like air in digestive tract after about ten minutes of taking it. kinda like rifting air.
The Meal contained my leftovers of Mash Potatoes and Gravey Roast Beef.
I don't feel comfortable yet raising the Symlin up to 10cc.

No need to apologize! If I had a nickle for everytime I confused a ratio, I'd have 1 million paseos.

I wished I could change that. No longer an Edit.
Maybe it should be changed I wouldn't want someone to take that literally.
Theres one who will in every bunch.
Could you imagine?
Maybe the moderator could change the cc to unit.
Thanks Brion

i have just started taking insulin again and i'm looking for suggestions on how to prevent 3-4 hour high blood sugars when taking symlin. My 1 hour is always less than 130 but by 3-4 hours it goes up to like 300. I was dual waving the insulin but that didn't seem to work...now i have tried giving some insulin at my meal and the rest 1 hour later.

You should probably make sure your insulin to carb ratio is accurate first...
What I found works best is to take the entire amount of insulin required to cover my meal, but using a 50/50 combo bolus over 2 hours. Also, try taking your insulin when you take your Symlin, 15-20 minutes before eating. Only do this is your are not hypo or near hypo.
If you have high bg when you start the Symlin process, first take a correction bolus as normal then proceed... Good luck!

I hope the medicine routine is less confusing than it sounds.:hmmmm2: My first day is today. I'm to start with 10 units, go to 15 after a week, then onto 20. If I get nauseated go back one step.
My blood sugars have been so bad that I am excited to get nauseated and have lows. (Well, maybe not excited.) Maybe I'll quit wanting to sleep all day.
I'm suppose to do symlin, test, do insulin and then eat. Sounds pretty straight forward.
Any good advice? My doctor was great, gave me literature, explained everythng, wrote everything down. But nothing like advice from people who have really done it. :tee:

I suggest you test before taking the Symlin. If you are too low, do not take the Symlin unless you raise your bg first. Also, the Symlin doesn't seem to work very well if you don't wait the full 15-20 minutes before eating. Good luck.

Thanks, Cyborg. My Dr. told me I had to refrigerate the Symlin all the time. The Pharmacist said to refrigerate it before opening, after opening it could be put on a shelf. Refrigerated meds stings when injected, but not at room temp. Do you keep yours refrigerated all the time? I like the no-sting variety myself.

I keep all vials, opened and unopened in the fridge. To warm the Symlin, you can draw it into the syringe and let it sit out for a few minutes before injecting. ...Or roll the filled, capped syringe back and forth in your hands for a minute.

Thanks to the Symlin expert. I appreciate all of your info. I'll follow your lead and keep it all in the fridge. It's worked well for you, so you must be doing it right.
