Ok I'm not diabetic but it runs in my family and lately I've been having a lot of random symptoms. Well, random as in I've never had them before. I'm fifteen years old and diabetes runs in my family. My aunt has it, my grandmother had it, her brothers have it, some of my cousins, etc. At the beginning of this year, I weighed around 127-132 pounds. Now, I weigh around 114-118. I didn't do anything to lose weight. I started having panic attacks in September, and lately I've had them more frequently. My skin is really itchy and dry. I always end up getting rashes on my face and neck, but that could be my facewash or my allergies. I'm allergic to all kinds of stuff. Lately I've had headaches just about all the time. I keep having weird episodes where I get really hot all of sudden, extremely dizzy and nauseated, then I throw up. Then I feel better after a couple of hourse. I get really sore all over my body. Friday night, I got dehydrated. Usually the amount of liquids I drink is enough for me. I couldn't even walk and I was shaking. My breathing was weird; I felt like I wasn't getting all the oxygen out of my breath or something... I don't know how to explain it. Then I drank a lot of water and I felt better for the most part. I've been pretty thirsty but it's not excessive or anything, and I'm still urinating normally and everything. I don't have blurry vision until I take out my contacts, and obviously that's normal. Lately my appetite has been really weird. I'm either hungry or the thought of food just makes me sick at my stomach. I've been really depressed, and that's normal for me when I'm about to start my period, but this depression started a week after I got off my period. I haven't really noticed a difference in my period either. I've been very irritated lately, and it's really effecting my life. My acne got pretty but now I'm on antibiotics for it, and its clearing up a lot.. I don't know if thats related to anything or not. People are noticing the difference in my personality and in my body. I don't know what to do. If its not Diabetes then what is it?? It could be hemochromatosis. Maybe its hormonal...

It doesn't sound like diabetes to me. You really need to tell a doctor about all these symptoms. And don't forget to menttion your family history of diabetes. I am am sure they will test your blood sugar. Or maybe you can borrow a meter from a family member and test it yourself.

It has been a long time since I developed diabetes but it doesn't sound like diabetes to me, either. I remember losing a lot of weight. I'd drink water constantly and as a result spent about half the day drinking water and the other half in the bathroom getting rid of it. I also became VERY sick, too, but that didn't happen until just before the diagnosis.

Thank you for your help. I'm worried and I thought that maybe if I joined & told people with diabetes about my symptoms that they would be able to tell me if I have anything to worry about or not. My school nurse thinks it could be anemia or maybe it's just hormonal or just because my blood sugar gets low. None of the "contributing factors" have bothered me before, so I just don't see why any of it would bother me now. That's just how it goes, I guess.

laurenj09,
While it sounds like there could be other things going on there, you could have Reactive Hypoglycemia. After eating carbohydrate, your pancreas produces too much insulin too late, which makes your blood drop lower than it should. It can make you feel dizzy, confused, sweaty, shakey, anxious etc. So get a metre and test your blood glucose when you feel like this. Also be aware that hypoglycemia often develops into T2 diabetes .....

Yeah I just did some research about Hypoglycemia and on the "hypo quiz" i scored an 88, and 20 is the normal range. Thank you, again, for the help.

Hi Lauren,
Your doctor might also want to check your thyroid function. An out of whack thyroid can cause a variety of weird symptoms. Let us know what you find out!

Girl. Don't rely on the internet to sort out your life. Medical concerns need medical attention. See a doctor please; then come back and let us know what they found. Either way, eat well, exercise, and enjoy life!

Haha yeah my mom's a nurse, so we talked about it. Now I changed my diet to stuff that won't make me get sick.
I'm so relieved that I know what's wrong now. I don't even care about the foods I'm going to miss out on.

Yes, I agree... you need to see your doctor & probably the sooner, the better. Some of what you say does concern me. I think anytime you lose weight without trying is your body telling you that something is wrong. But hopefully everything will check out and you can put your mind at ease.
Keep us posted.

I will. I already had a CT scan scheduled this week, so if I see a doctor when I get that done, maybe he or she will run some tests or something.

Your symptoms sound so similar to my daughters. Although she is a T1, she was also dx'd w/ panic anxiety disorder 2.5 yrs ago...(and that's when those symptoms became more defined).
Good luck and keep us posted!
