Ok so i have the novolog pen for my short acting insulin...i went to go give myself a shot today for lunch and my pen is soaked in what i assume is insulin cause it smelled weird....the pen had been in its container all day....so i wiped it off then proceded to do the shot.....didnt feel anything so i took it out and pumped it to 3 and shot in the air and no insulin came out...i tried again then insulin came out so i did the shot again and felt fine...
I am wondering is this normal? should i get rid of this pen and get a new one? or do you think it would be ok to use?

i use the flexpens. if i take a shot and resheath the needle and then don't change it and go to take a later shot, then there can be wetness from the insulin that was left on the needle.
do you normally prime the needle before giving a shot? i always prime it with 2 units before i take a shot so iknow insulin will come out and i won't be injecting an air bubble. (if it's the first shot from the new pen I need to expel about 6 units).
i would say if you are concerned then throw the pen away and use a new one. i know alot of people dislike the flexpens but if it's device problem you just throw it away , dont need to get a new novopen.

I use the Humapens, and ALWAYS prime it with a unit or two. I'd rather waste a few units doing an "air shot" then find out i'm not injecting insulin into my body and running high later.......
Tric, do you leave your needle in your pen when you store it? The insulin may be coming out that way....

i normally have no problem with these pens...i prime before hand always and i take the needle off after every time... ::ive been it on several occasions so this helps me remember to change it lol::
i was just a little freaked thats all cause this hasnt happened to me before

Hmm, that is weird then. Maybe the seal around the vial is busted?

Questions:
1. Is the needle screwed on tightly?
2. Was the pen in a place where it would get very warm?
3. Was the pen stored needle up or needle down?

My Innovo(Induo) never leaks and I've never done a primer shot after the first one I do when putting in a new cartridge since I never change needles except when changing cartridges.
But I have noticed minor leaks when
1= no
2 =yes
3= down
