Darn it all. I forgot to stop and get beer on the way home :s:
What's the carb count for a wing? 5? 10? I give beers 15, but I don't shoot for all of em if I'm going to get blasted.

Hehehe...
The perfect combo for me is about 4 Mich Ultra's and 10 hot wings (extra hot and wet). The cool thing is that I don't have to bolus since the alcohol tends to lower my bg and the protein from the wings offsets it perfectly.

Man I can slobber through a platter of Buffalo wings in no time, the hotter the better. I'll chase em with any beer, but a large ice cold Alpine Lager (Moosehead Breweries) is best. Too bad the brat has a hockey game tomorrow night.
Chicken, in copious amounts, messes me up. I have to bolus for it at about two hours after ingesting as if it were carbs. I have yet to figure out why...

Try an extended bolus like I do (without the beer)...
Try an extended bolus like I do (without the beer)...
I have...the initial bolus seems to make me go low, and then at almost EXACTLY 2 hours I take off like a rocket. Like I had just eaten cheesecake or something. It is the dangedest thing.
I have noted if I eat say one wing/thigh, I seem to be okay. But if I eat a bunch of wings, thighs, etc., it becomes an issue. I'll have to experiment one day and figure out where that line is crossed, but for now I time it and bolus at two hours.

I do a 30/70 over 3 hours. What boluses have you tried? I also calculate 5g for each wing (non-breaded).

Weird - I can eat a whole order of hot wings (not breaded) and I don't take any insulin at all and my bs stays the same. Everyone's so different!

That's really strange, since they are breaded. Are you honeymooning?

I really haven't tried any of the extended bolus schemes...I guess it was about a year ago that I realized chicken/beef made my sugars rise. And actually, it was shortly after you got here to this forum (I remember thinking about that Cyborg guy) when I realized that if I ate a lot of wings, and only wings, I was fine for about two hours, and then took off (chicken in flight!). I just started tweaking and experimenting since at the time I was working with a dude that loved the wings from Hooters and would pay each time (talk about win/win and...win).
5g/wing is about right from what I can tell as well for me.

Mmmmmmmm Alpine. I haven't had one of those since August...

At Red Robyn's Restaurant the wings are deep fried crispy, then flipped in hot sauce - no breading. They are finger-lickin' good, and yah, I don't take any insulin and my bs doesn't change.(even hours later) I'm not "honeymooning" anymore - I was dxed a year and a half ago. Many times, in the beginning, if we were going to a restaurant, I would only order wings because I didn't want to take a needle. It's just always worked. Weird.

It's good to find one food that has zero to little effect on you.

Only one way to find out!
Buffalos don't have wings!! We just call them "wings" and since Buffalo is the home of them, it is understood. You have never had wings until you come to Buffalo and have the real thing from the source. Mild (for sissies), medium (hardly worth the heat), hot (now we're talking!) and extra-hot (now THAT is why they invented beer!!!), a "bucket" of wings--50 of them greasy little suckers--can cause one to require a 6-pack. I think the reason we invented these hot wings here in Buffalo is to keep us warm during our frigid winters. The real ones are never breaded (breaded???) but always deep-fried, but not until they are crispy. To really enjoy them properly as we do here, one must serve them with blue cheese sauce for dipping, as well as celery sticks, just in case you run out of wings before you run out of the blue chese sauce! Then you can suck up the remaining blue cheese without having to dip your fingers in... I used to eat a LOT more chicken wings before my heart attack--in fact, that is probably what GAVE me the heart attack--all the greasy wings and creamy blue cheese sauce. But for a treat a couple of times a year, I will indulge, especially if my daughter is back in town--she knows no matter where she travels, there is no place like home for Buffalo Wings. Or the Sabres. Or the Bills...!!

LOL! My mouth was watering just reading you describe the wings! I wasn't expecting you to say you had a heart attack, and I burst out laughing! Then I felt bad for laughing because it's not funny! Hope you're doing better now!

I heard that people in France eat alot of poultry, esp. duck which is very fatty. I think there is still a debate as to whether poultry fat is bad for you.
Personally, I eat wings probably once a week and my cholesterol was very good when it was last checked.

It's all relative. Provided you exercise regularly, you can pretty much eat whatever you want.
Funny point about the French though - apparently there's a sort of belief system in France about fats and what's good at what isn't.
Best - Game birds (quails etc)
Poultry
Beef
Pork
Worst -Lamb
I have been DYING for wings for days now. Thanks y'all.

Why do I think tequila and HOT wings don't mix?:bandit:
I think the problem will be getting them to STAY mixed ! :vollkomme
I find beer the hardest to bolus for, all that maltose. Liquors and red wines are relatively stable items for me. Beer makes me go pretty haywire if I have more than 2 or so.

Well, I tried it again, and it worked! Red Robin's Restaurant - had a whole order of hot wings with celery sticks and blue cheese dip, coffee with cream, and I didn't take any insulin. Before lunch (my first meal of the day) my bs was 7.1. A couple hours later my bs was 5.2. Another hour later I was 5.1! Weird how this works for me - but I'm happy about it!

So, if your bg goes down after eating, but without taking insulin. I would bet that you are still producing insulin...

I remember watching the head of the Mexican Olympic Comittee admit that they had Taco Bell in Mexico and it was popular--very funny moment.
But there is something about having an Outback in Australia that is just...what's the word...?

Well, last night (New Years Eve), I had breaded wings with buffalo sauce. I took 5 units of NovoRapid and had about 2lbs worth of wings and some chips, and I went hypo (2.5mmol), so that tells me wings are in, and Insulin is out (well, just need less I guess).
That's great, so, Wings and Chinese food don't hurt me much at all. Now, if I could only have Pizza and brownies with milk again in my life, life would be worth living again.

Oh not wings!!! I'm being haunted by those!
We went through twelve cases last night(over 3000)...in less than 6 hours. PURE wing-craziness...UGH!
Try making your own wings. Mix one stick of melted butter and 3 fl oz (+/-) of Tabasco. Simmer wings till done.
