There has been research in the past regarding how important getting enough sleep is. Not only does it affect how alert you are, but it affects things you wouldn't usually think of... such as appetite, mood, and overall health.

Lately, I have been a little sleep deprived... mostly due to my own fault . I've noticed that when I don't get enough sleep that it affects me on many different levels- physically, emotionally, mentally etc. And, yes, it affects my Diabetes.

One of the ways it does this, is by affecting how I make decisions. When I'm tired, I am not as prepared to make good decisions regarding my Diabetes. I might eat more poorly, forget to test or opt not to, or just let the emotions get the better of me :(.

My question is how many hours of sleep do you sleep a night? do you feel like it affects your Diabetes/health? And do you think you should sleep more?

Thanks for your participation .

While I may be in bed 8 to 10 hours, I probably average 5 hours of sleep. It's rare for me to sleep more than 2 - 3 hours straight ... then I'll be awake for about an hour, then repeat that process through out the night :( I often have times where in like 5 days time I'm lucky to get an entire 8 hours ALL together :( Insomnia SUX!!!

I try to get 7 hours on nights where I work the following day. However, it takes me about an hour to fall asleep. Then I wake around 2-3 every night no matter what. Either for a low, or just cause.

On nights where I don't work the following day, sleep in time. I get about 10 hours then if I have nothing to do in the morning.

The #1 reason I wake up though is my **** pump. Firstly, I need a new holder, but still don't want to pay Animas $30 for one. The velcro leather holder doesn't work and they won't send me a free new one with the snap on it. I just haven't had time to modify the one I have. The thing falls out then I twist around in the tubing and wake to find it hanging off the bed. Amazingly, never had a tubing stretch to not working or it pull a set out.

I try for 8 hours because I really am at my best when I get 8 hours. If I can get 8 hours in, I don't even need an alarm clock....However, due to life in general, it's usually around 7.

I'm one of those that gets 3-4 hours of sleep a night. Horrible thing about getting to work by 4am, I'm tired all day and once I'm off work I'm wide awake till 11pm, when I force myself to go to bed. On my days off i'm still lucky to get 5-6 hours of sleep, and that's pushing it.

Now that Brandy's gone, I'll go to bed at 1:00 or 2:00 and get up by 7:00. When she was alive, she'd hop onto the bed around 10:00 in the evening and pick her ears up and stare at me intensely until I went to bed. I guess I kept her warm. Of course, she'd get up around 4:00 or 5:00 and I'd have to get up to feed her. She wanted me to stay up and play with her but it was a tad too early for me. She was a morning cat.

*giggles*

My Tzu, Bella, thinks that cuz daddy just left for work that mommy MUST get up and NOW! Which is normally about 8:30 am. Mind you, I don't usually go to bed until between 1 and 3 am, and have probably had only 4 or so hours of sleep by then! AND, daddy has already let her out for her morning "business".

I'll open my eyes and she's RIGHT there in my face, nose to nose with me, looking me straight in the eyes, making this little grunty/growly noise! LOL If I don't get up, she'll start running all over the bed, still making that noise, using me as a pounce point rather than just jumping over me! UGH! She weighs a whopping 8.5 pounds, but I SWEAR she weighs 400 pounds per paw! LOL

Well, lately, I don't get as much, and let me tell you.....I'm quite bi*&*y! lol However, the bi*&*iness is also due to a LOT of Unnecessary STRESS!! :motz:

Lack of sleep is only one portion. It does have adverse effects on our bodies, but stress caused by work, people and other influences is No help.

I voted for 4hrs a night. I generally get 5 hours of sleep a day total, an hour in the afternoon and four at night. I've never needed much sleep and as long as I get 4-5hrs I'm fine. less the 4 effects my overall alertness. I don't think it effects my diabetes. Even if i dont want to test, eat right and all that happy **** i persist. Well I dont always eat right, who does. lol I dont think sleep has anything to do with it for me tho.

I can function with 5 to 6 hours of sleep only if need be. But not for a very long time. 4-5 days max!

On a reg basis I get 8 or more hours of sleep a night. Last night I went to bed at 9 pm I was exhausted. I got up at 7 this morning and only because my stupid alarm clock went off....!!!!

Depending on when I get to sleep, usually around 4 AM... I'll get up around 9ish. :) I've never needed a lot of sleep, but since I've been sick I feel like I'm not getting enough sleep... :(

I go to bed between 12 and 1 most nights (damm Conan O'Brien for being so funny).

Anyway I lie there for hours tossing and turning. I have restless leg syndrome (but I really don't want to take the Requip drug or any sleeping tabs as they make me feel like a zombie later). I usually fall asleep around 4am, and get up at 8. If I don't have to work then i'll grab another 3 hours either in the morning or when I crash later in the day.

I don't know how you do it 4 hours of sleep.... I didn't even know there was "restless leg syndrome" until the other day. I saw a commerical for some drug... Is it comman in Diabetics...????I hope you sleep like a baby tonight.... Oh no scratch that babies only sleep 2-3 hours at a time huh.... Just have a restful sleep....

Anything less than 6 and I feel deprived of sleep. Anything more than 8 is like winning the lotto...
