My fasting numbers are usually in the 85-95 range for the last few months and for the last 2 weeks they have been creeping up in the 90-102 range. This started about a week after I added ALA and flaxseed oil to my regular supplements. Anybody else take these two and if so did it affect your fasting levels?
I also added benfotiamine but that was after the fasting numbers went up.
Diet and exercise is pretty much the same.

The only thing contant in the life of a diabetic is change.

In another thread, which I can not find, there was note that ALA may increase BG a little when first used. After the initial period, which was not defined, insulin sensitivity is said to increase (thus potential lower BG).
My own experience with ALA has been similar. The increase in Bg was so little that I'm not sure it even happened.
I take ALA more in regard to its effect on neuropathy than on insulin resistance.
How much are you taking? I take 200mg of racemic.

P.S. Most people in the Forum woull kill for a FSB of 90-100.

I'm taking Rexall super ALA 200mg twice a day. I also read that post about rising levels at first so maybe that's what it is. I'm not really too concerned at this point but was just curious since it did rise shortly after I started taking it.

It it continues to rise I'll stop taking it for a while and see what happens.

Do give it a good chance if you can! Unless the BG actually goes out of control, that is. I tend not to get too excited about these types of things, but I have a feeling (that's one step below a SWAG) that there is something to the ALA.
If there is something useful to it, I'd like to see it further adopted.
In the future, it may be useful to compare notes.

After a high of 102 on sunday morning, my levels have been slowly dropping to 97 on monday and 94 today so I think I will continue the ALA and the benfotiamine.

The benfo is supposed to be for neuropathy as well and since I've been taking this and ALA my symptoms have totally cleared up.

I didn't have any serious problems , just a burning, tingling sensation in my feet after standing for a few hours.

Has anyone taking benfotiamine been able to find it locally? We have several major drug chains and health food stores here and not a single one has it.

Great to hear about the neuropathy clearning up and the BG going down.
